Introduction
Electronic Science has applications in almost all fields such as defence, entertainment,
communication, automobiles, medical, agriculture, industrial automation, home appliances
etc. The curriculum for the B.Sc. Electronic Science is systematically planned to create a
foundation for the students to build up a successful career in Electronics. Theoretical
knowledge and practical training will help the students to handle real world problems in all
fields.

Objectives
 To provide in – depth knowledge of scientific and technological aspects of Electronics.
 To prepare the students to apply the acquired knowledge towards planning, designing and
building electronic applications.
 Train students to be an entrepreneur or part of the industry, through experiments, projects,
hands on training, industrial visits and market surveys.
 Enrich knowledge base of students for pursuing higher studies and taking up research and
development in Electronics.

Number system
Introduction to decimal, binary, hexadecimal, octal number systems and their
interconversions. 1’s complement, 2’s complement of binary numbers, Binary

addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. Weighted and non – weighted codes,
BCD codes, comparison between binary and BCD, BCD arithmetic, Gray code and
their conversion to binary and vice versa, ASCII code.
Logic Gates and Boolean Algebra
Positive and negative logic, basic logic gates (OR, AND, NOT) and derived gates
2 (NAND, NOR, XOR) – symbols, truth tables and ICs(TTL and CMOS). Boolean
Algebra rules and laws, De Morgan’s theorems (statements and proofs), NAND &
NOR as universal logic gates.
Arithmetic and Combinational Circuits
Half adder, full adder, half subtractor, parallel adder, Comparator, parity generator and
3 checker, Multiplexer, Demultiplexer, encoder, decoder, code converters – decimal to
binary, binary to gray and vice versa, BCD to 7 segment decoder, (Logic ICs of all
above circuits).
