FOLENS ENGLISH SKILLS PROGRAMME FOLENS ENGLISH SKILLS PROGRAMME New Treasuryis a series of skills books designed to systematically develop core English language skills. Itis aligned to both the 2015 Primary Language Curriculum and the 1999 Primary English Curriculum. Content is carefully planned and spiralled so that each book builds directly upon the previous one. Each book contains 15 units, based on the genres as they are defined in the Primary Language Curriculum: Narrative, Recount, Procedure, Report, Explanation, Persuasive. The units can be used sequentially in fortnightly blocks or topically, as required. Each unit follows the same structure for ease of use: + Text: Engaging fiction and non-fiction texts to anchor the unit and act as a springboard for connected learning across oral language, reading and writing + Comprehension: + Section A: Questions based on the text that build from literal to inferential + Section B: Opportunities for children to use a wider range of skills and develop comprehension strategies such as predicting and visualising + Vocabulary: Practice of tier 2 and 3 words introduced in the text + Phonics: Discrete phonics activities to fine-tune decoding and encoding skills, + Grammar: Models and practice of correct punctuation and grammar + Writing: Both general and genre specific writing skills + Oral language: Dedicated oral language activities based on the genre and learning in the unit All activities are carefully constructed so that they progress in difficulty to facilitate differentiation. Teaching notes, termly assessments and handy printables to accompany the books are available on FolensOniine.
