SHRI RA
A M MANDIR
The Shri Ram Mandir stands as a prominent
Hindu temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh,
dedicated to Lord Shri Ram. Positioned at the
revered Ram Janmabhoomi, the birthplace
of Lord Ram, the temple holds immense
cultural and religious significance for Hindus.
Constructed with a focus on traditional building
practices and sustainability, the temple utilizes
materials like Bansi Paharpur Pink Sandstone,
Granite Stones, White Makrana, Colored Marbles,
Teakwood, Ram Shilas, Shaligram Rock, Copper
Plates, Gold, and Ashtdhatu. This amalgamation
of modern craftsmanship and ancient symbolism
distinguishes the temple’s construction.
The architectural highlights include a foundation
featuring a 14-meter thick layer of roller-
compacted concrete, a 21-foot-high plinth of
Granite, and a three-story Nagara Style main

ATAL SETU 2024
On January 12, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated
the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), known as Atal Setu, marking
the inauguration of the country’s longest sea bridge. This infrastructure
marvel is anticipated to significantly slash the travel time between South
Mumbai and Navi Mumbai from a tedious two hours to a mere 20 minutes.
Spanning a length of 21.8 kilometers, the bridge, constructed at a cost
exceeding Rs 17,840 crore, serves as a testament to the remarkable
achievements of Indian engineering. Beyond its transformative
impact on the daily lives of Mumbai residents, Atal Setu stands
out as a scientific marvel. Notably, the quantity of steel used in its
construction is equivalent to the weight of 500 Boeing airplanes
and surpasses the weight of the Eiffel Tower 17 times, as highlighted
in a press release from the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office.
Now, let’s delve into the engineering intricacies that characterize
this impressive structure:
EARTHQUAKE RESISTANCE:
Atal Setu uses 254 seismic isolation bearings to detach the bridge deck from supporting
piers, allowing autonomous movement in earthquakes. Ductile concrete piers,
specially crafted, flex rather than fracture, absorbing tremors and safeguarding it.
HIGH-PERFORMANCE CONCRETE:
The high-performance concrete blend utilized in the bridge construction
withstands the corrosive impact of seawater and the relentless Mumbai sun.
Its low heat generation minimizes cracking, ensuring enduring durability.
CAISSON FOUNDATIONS:
Caisson foundations play a pivotal role in sea bridge construction, offering stable
support amid challenging marine conditions. Atal Setu utilizes this mechanism in
its construction, providing a stable, watertight support structure for sea bridges.
PRECAST SEGMENTS:
The bridge deck is composed of precast concrete segments, fabricated off-site and
meticulously assembled. This rapid construction method minimizes disruptions and
guarantees consistent quality.
UNDERWATER CONSTRUCTION:
Constructing underwater is among the most challenging aspects of building this
massive bridge. Skilled divers and advanced equipment, including remotely operated
vehicles (ROVs), were employed in constructing the bridge’s pylons and foundations.
