The Importance of Human Resource Management


-IT markets has its ups and downs.
-develop and maintain IT hardware, software, networks, and applications.
- need for skilled IT workers and project managers to lead projects.
- upgrade their skills to remain marketable and flexible.
- Negotiation and communication skills crucial in finding and keeping a good
job.

What is Project Human Resource Management?


- Make the most effective use of people in project
- it includes all project stakeholders
- Include four process.
1)plan Human Resource Management
2) aquire project team
3) develop project team
4) manage project team

Motivation Theories:
Intrinsic motivation: causes people to participate in an activity for their
own enjoyment.
Extrinsic motivation: causes people to do something for a reward or to
avoid a penalty.

Power: is the ability to influence behaviour to get people to do things they


would not do
Five main types of Power:
- Coercive power (punishment/ severe action / lose job & salary)
- Legitimate power (military / army / defense power)
- Expert power (expert or knowledgeable in particular area/subjects)
- Reward power (recognizing and rewarding)
- Referent power (personal attractiveness - good attitude)

Covey Theory / seven habits which are:


• Being proactive (be positive/optimistic)
• Beginning with the end in mind
• Putting first thing first (priority of things to do)
• Thinking win/win (mutual benefits)
• Seeking first to understand, then to be understood
• Achieving synergy (team work)
• Sharpening the saw (upgrading)

Developing the Human Resource Plan


Lecture 8

1) Organizational chart
2) Detailed information on roles and responsibilities
3) Staffing management plan

OBS (Organizational Breakdown structure)


Show which organizational unit are responsible for which work item

Responsibility Assignment Matrix (RAM)


maps the work of the project to the people responsible for performing the
work.

RACI charts: show key roles for project stockholders.

– Responsibility: who does the task?


– Accountability: who signs off the task or has authority for it?
– Consultation: who has necessary/required information to complete the task
– Informed: who needs to be notified of task status or results (after
completion)

Staffing management plan and Resource histogram


A staffing management plan: How people are added and taken off the project
Resource histogram: number of resources assigned to a project.

Acquiring the project team


1) Resource assignment: Assigning people with the best fit of their skills
2) Resource Loading: Show resource loading and identify allocation of resource
3) Resource leveling: it’s a method to solve resource loading allocation
problems

Acquiring the project team


main goal is to help people work together more effectively.

Five stages model of team development:


(1) Forming (2) storming (3) norming (4) performing (5) adjourning
- Training: to improve staff skills
- Team Building activities.
- Reward and recognition system rewards make people work more effectively

Managing team project


Observation and conversation: ask and observe team member’s work.
Project performance appraisals: the need of project performance
Interpersonal skills: leadership and decision making.
Conflict management: understand strategies for handling and managing
conflict.
