Introduction
Objective:
To analyse two different loading cases on a truss and member forces experimental measured
results. then calculated the forces by hand using the method of joints. Then compare the results
from both the experimental and analytical results and calculate the precent error and discuss the
possible reasons for the different values.
Analytical results
Experimental results
The forces that were measured in the lab for both load cases are shown in the tables below. The
forces were measured by analyzing two different loading frames for each loading case. Load case
1 has a force of 200N on joint H and load case 2 had a force of –200N on joint D. The members
were measured by setting the frames to the right load and the computer program connected to the
loading frames measured all the member forces based on the loads. If the value is positive the
member is in tension and if the value is negative the member is in compression.
