SudokuCon 24-hour Livestream Puzzle Collection

collated by MikoKisai
What is this?
On November 4-5, 2023, a group of community members hosted a 24-hour puzzle livestream to
raise money for SudokuCon 2025. Thanks to our incredible compiler MikoKisai, the document you’re
looking at right now is a physical record of that event: it contains every one of the puzzles solved
and set during the stream, as well as many others that we received and would have loved to solve,
but didn’t have time for. We’re sharing them all with you now. Enjoy!

Foreword
SudokuCon started as a spark in the back of my brain last summer. Our very first planning meeting
was at the beginning of August, and the first mention of putting on a livestream was at the very end
of August. This team accomplished the amazing feat of getting the livestream on the air in only two
months. I’d like to single out three people without whom the livestream would never have happened.

Clover, you went above and beyond for weeks herding cats. You made the livestream your baby,
managing every aspect of it, and creating a special event that I, for one, will never forget. Thank
you, clover, and I am so looking forward to continuing to work with you on what I’m sure will be only
the first of many SudokuCons.

Gliperal and Sven, without you both we would never have gotten the livestream to actually broadcast.

Gliperal, your dedication to determining the best possible hardware and software to best accomplish
our goal, and your impeccable system administration, allowed us to stream together from all over the
world. It was an incredible accomplishment, and one you should be very proud of.

Sven, your tireless efforts to create the smoothest experience for all the members of the SudokuCon
family, enabling them to shine on camera, has been a sight to behold. Your commitment to making
SudokuPad run rings around its previous renditions was the icing on the cake.

And to all the producers, emcees, guests, and everyone both on camera and behind the scenes, who
made the SudokuCon 24 Hour Livestream Fundraiser such a resounding success, I am honored to
work with all of you. And I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your hard work,
enthusiasm, and especially for your time.

I can’t wait to meet you all in person in Boston in April, 2025!

Sincerely,

carabet

Kodra solves Gattai

Kodra solved one of clover’s monthly Gattai puzzles. Or tried to, at least.

35
Clover’s November Gattai
by clover!
This puzzle consists of both 9x9 and 6x6 sudoku grids. Within each 9x9 grid, normal sudoku rules
apply. However, the 6x6 grids are “mean minis”: instead of using the digits from 1 to 6, each 6x6 grid
uses an unknown set of 6 digits from 1 to 9, inclusive. In order to solve, you’ll have to determine which
digits to use in each 6x6 grid, then fill that grid with those 6 digits in normal sudoku fashion (digits
may not repeat in any row, column, or region). Different 6x6 grids may or may not use different sets
of digits.

Additionally, kropki pairs rules apply: digits separated by a white dot are consecutive, and digits
separated by a black dot are in a 1:2 ratio. Not all dots are necessarily given.

Why Am I Like This?
by DiMono
This puzzle uses four digits from 1-9. Those digits must be determined by the solver. Place those
digits once each into every row, column, and box in each of the five 4x4 grids in this one puzzle.
Thermometers: Digits must only increase from bulb to tip because that’s how thermometers work.
X: Connected digits must sum to 10 because it is decreed thusly by the Romans.
Black dots: One digit is twice the other one. The other one is also a digit.
White dots: One digit is one more than the other one. The other digit is one less than the first one.
Arrow: The digits on the arrow sum to the digit in the circle, no matter what their parents say.
German Whispers: Consecutive digits on a green line must differ by at least five and must learn
German.

54
The S-Cell Miracle
by Niverio
- Normalish Sudoku rules apply. Place the digits 0-9 in the grid so that every row, column, and 3x3
box contains every digit exactly once. To enable this, there is a single Schrödinger cell in each row,
column and box, containing a superposition of two different digits.
- When there is a ? outside of the grid, that indicated row/column’s X-Sum clue (The sum of the
first N cells, where N is the first digit seen in that direction.) is equal to the sum of the digits in that
row/column’s S-cell.
- For the Diagonal clues the rule above applies diagonally in the indicated direction. If a diagonal
has more than one S-cell, the clue applies to the first seen S-cell. A diagonal clue can be a 0 if the
indicated diagonal has no S-cells.
- The diagonal clues in black have no impact on their row/column. The diagonal clue in red is both
a row and a diagonal clue.

Liar Japanese Sums #2: GW
by Niverio
- Sudoku: Normal Sudoku rules apply. Place digits 1-9 in every row, column and 3x3 box.

- Liar Japanese Sums: Shade some cells in the grid such that clues outside the grid indicate the
sums of the continuous blocks of unshaded cells in that row or column. At least one shaded cell must
separate the blocks. For every clued row or column, 2 different sets are provided (Left / Right for rows,
Top / Bottom for columns.) One set is correct, with correct sums in the correct order.(Always left to
right or top to bottom.) The other set is a lie. Which sets are correct must be determined by the solver.

- Green lines are German Whisper lines. Digits along a German Whisper line must differ by at
least 5.

- Digits in cages cannot repeat and must sum to the total shown in the upper left corner of the cage.
- Digits separated by a white dot are consecutive. Digits separated by a black dot are in a 1:2 ratio.
Not all possible dots are necessarily given.
- The grid is partially covered with fog. When a correct digit is placed, the fog will lift in the
surrounding cells, potentially revealing additional clues.

*Any time a digit is placed in error (as determined by fog not clearing from surrounding digits), assess

by Tesseralis
Normal sudoku rules apply. Mark nine cells, one in each row, column, and box, containing the digits
1-9 once each.

Eight of the nine marked cells are ”entropy sweeper” cells and count the number of cells in its

Digits belong to the same entropy when they are both low (123), middle (456) or high (789).

pentomino. Digits may not repeat inside a pentomino. Pentominoes with the same shape may not
touch each other orthogonally, regardless of reflection or rotation.

The sum of the digits on a line within a pentomino must be the same for each pentomino the
line passes through. A line may not re-enter a pentomino, and different lines may have different sums.
Lines must visit at least two pentominoes.

Parity Loop
by Paletron
Standard Sudoku rules apply.
Draw a single closed loop (without branching or crossing) moving orthogonally through centers of
some cells in the grid. The loop travels on cells of the same parity, and when it crosses a border, the
parity switches.
The loop passes through each circle, and the number in the circle counts the number of cells around
it, which are visited by the loop (including itself, maximum of 9).
Cells connected by V sum to 5. Cells connected by X sum to 10.

Normal Sudoku rules apply. Place a digit from 1 to 9 in every cell such that no digits repeat in a row,
column, or bold 3x3 box.
Normal Renban variant rules apply. Cells along the purple line contain a non-repeating set of consec-
utive values in any order.
The gold lines are Nabner lines. Two cells that share a Nabner line can have neither the same value
nor consecutive values.
In each row, column, and box is an ”adder” cell. Each ”adder” increases the values of orthogonally
adjacent cells by N, where N is the digit in the adder cell. Adder cells do not increase themselves.
Each digit appears in exactly one adder.

Mods, Quads, Odds & Schröds
by MartySears and ThePedallingPianist
Fill every row, column and 3x3 box with the digits 0-9 exactly once each.
Schröds: there are 9 Schrödinger cells in the grid, which contain 2 different digits.
Same Difference lines: adjacent digits on a turquoise line must have the same difference, though this
difference can be different for different lines.
Quads: each quad circle contains all the digits in the surrounding 4 cells. Unfortunately these quad
clues have all been written in white text, and so are invisible. Digits might repeat within a quad circle.
Odds: digits in a grey circle must be odd.
Circles: a digit in a circle (odd or quad clue) shows how many times that digit appears in a circle.
E.g. if there is a 5 in a quad clue, then there must be 5 total appearances of 5s in quad clues and
odd circles combined.
For the purpose of Same Difference lines, the two Schrödinger digits are considered to be adjacent
on the line. For example, 7-(35)-1 would be a valid line, but 7-1-(35) would not.
For the purpose of quad clues and odd clues, the two Schrödinger digits are considered separately; for
example, a (35) Schrödinger cell in an odd circle means that 3 and 5 each gain one extra appearance
in circles.

Everything in its Right Place
by MartySears
• Normal sudoku rules apply.
• Draw 3 snakes which must each begin and end at a different grey spot. Snakes are lines which
may move orthogonally and diagonally between cells. They may touch each other (or themselves),
and can even cross eachother, but they must not branch, share cells with each other, or enter cages.
• A digit on a snake indicates exactly how many times that digit appears on that snake. Eg: If there
is a 5 on a snake, there are five 5s on that snake.
• One snake is a German Whisper line; along it, adjacent digits must differ by at least 5.
• One snake is a slow thermometer; along this line, reading from one end to the other, digits must
always increase or stay the same.
• One snake is entropic; along it, any group of 3 adjacent cells must contain one low digit (1, 2 or
3), one medium digit (4, 5 or 6) and one high digit (7, 8 or 9.)
• Digits in a cage must sum to the small clue given in that cage.
• Digits separated by a V sum to 5.

Wheels on the Bus
by Alaric Taqi A. (Crusader175)
Normal sudoku rules apply.
Disjoint Groups: Cells in the same relative position in different boxes cannot contain the same digits.
Wheels: Digits in a circle have to be placed in the same circular order in the four cells that are touched
by the circle. The circles have to be rotated 90° clockwise N times from the current position. N is
the digit in the cell inside the circle.
Example: If R2C8=6, then R1C8=8 and R2C9=4

The Graveyard of Schrödinger
by fjam
- Normal Sudoku rules almost apply. Place the digits 0-9 into cells such that each digit appears once
in every row, column and region. To accommodate this, one cell in each row, column and region is a
Schrödinger cell, which contains two digits.
- In graves (cages), digits must sum to the day, month or year of the date on the grave. Digits cannot
repeat within graves.
- Escape the graveyard by carefully plotting an orthogonally connected path between the green and
red cells. The path may not cross the highest or lowest digits in a grave.

In short, Standard Coral and Starbattle rules apply.

In full:
Coral: Shade some cells so that all shaded cells form one orthogonally connected area and the un-
shaded cells are all connected orthogonally by other unshaded cells to the edge of the grid. No 2x2
region may be entirely shaded. Clues outside the grid represent the lengths of each of the blocks of
consecutive shaded cells in the corresponding row or column, not necessarily in order.

Starbattle: Place two stars in each row, column, and unshaded region such that they do not touch,
even diagonally.

IMO Sudoku
by Dorlir
Normal sudoku rules apply. In each row, column and 3x3 box there is exactly 1 hot cell. Each hot
cell has a value 1 higher than its digit (different hot cells can have the same value). Each line has
an even number of hot cells (zero hot cells is possible). Adjacent values on the green line differ by
at least 5. The yellow line is a modular line (every three adjacent cells along the line must have one
value from each of the sets [1,4,7,10], [2,5,8], [3,6,9]). The sum of the values on the blue line is the
same within each 3x3 box it passes through. Adjacent values on the black line are in ratio 1:2. The
product of the values on the red line is 64.

Seven Whispering Rivers
by JC Godart
Given digits are the source of a river of the given length. Blue cells are also a source of a river whose
length has to be determined by the solver.
Rivers move orthogonally and cannot cross or branch.
Rivers of same length may not touch at an edge.
All sources are given and all rivers must connect (orthogonally) into a single network.
Rivers are German whisper lines : adjacent digits along the river must differ by 5 or more.
Cells not traversed by a river are islands. The orange cell is part of an island.
Islands are at least 2 cells in size.
Neither rivers nor islands may form a 2x2 region.

Where’s the Crusts?
by RockyRoer
Normal sudoku rules apply.

In each row, column, and region, you must find two ‘crusts’s. All nine 1’s are crusts, as well as
nine other cells, which could be any digit. The clues on the outside of the grid refer to the sums of
the digits between these crust cells.

The capsules contain the coordinates of each of the nine crust cells that are not 1’s. For exam-
ple, if R9C12 contains 4 and 5, than that means R4C5 is a crust cell that isn’t one. No two capsules
refer to the same crust cell.
