List down and described briefly at most three (3) ethnic groups you found in your assigned
region. You may include one or two pictures. Your output should cover this page only.

Being in the heart of the Tagalog region, Tagalogs constitute the majority in Metro Manila.
However, being the capital of the nation, Metro Manila has also attracted great migrations of
other Filipino ethnolinguistic groups from around the country, especially those of Ilocano,
Bicolano, Cebuano, Waray, and Maranao descent. Manila is the main hub of the Spanish mestizo
minority. Small foreign communities include the Chinese, Americans, South Asians, Spaniards,
Indonesians, Japanese, Koreans, Arabs, and various others.

The original settlers of Manila were the Tagalogs. Throughout the centuries, there has been a
constant migration of Visayans, Bicolanos, Ilocanos, Maranaos, Pampangans, Chinese, Japanese,
and Spaniards. There are also Americans, Arabs, Indonesians, Indians, and Koreans in Manila.
Intermarriage between ethnic groups is not uncommon in the Philippines.

There are three distinct local ethnic groups in Manila, the natives, the Chinese, and the Spanish.
The Chinese and Spanish groups, companies and families control most of the political and
financial institutions.

RIZAL PARK
Previously called Bagumbayan Field, Rizal Park or Luneta Park was built as a
tribute to our greatest national hero – Dr. Jose Rizal. It is one of the leading
historical sites in the Philippines where Rizal was executed by the Spanish
military firing squad on December 30, 1896 because he had spread the ideals
of revolution against Spanish rule. Nowadays, it is one of the major tourist
attractions of Manila. The Park became a favorite spot for unwinding and
socializing. It is also a place for family bonding and picnics during Sundays
. and holidays

INTRAMUROS
Intramuros is known in history as the “Walled City” because of its most
famous feature: a nearly three-mile-long circuit of massive stone walls and
fortifications that almost completely surrounds the entire district. It is the
oldest district and historic core of Manila where old Spanish era influences
are still plentiful. Photography and history lovers will find Intramuros an
interesting destination. If you visit the place, you can still feel the Spanish
ambiance and appreciate the historical landmarks and churches in the area.
Plus, visiting Intramuros is very affordable and worth your time. Going here, you can re-experience the
past in a modern light.

EDSA SHRINE

The EDSA Shrine, also known as the Shrine of Mary, Queen of Peace, and
Our Lady of EDSA, is a small church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of
Manila located at the intersection of Ortigas Avenue and Epifanio de los
Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Quezon City. It is a monument dedicated to the
first People Power Revolution and its peaceful outcome on December 15,
1989. It is a place that witnessed the two demonstrations that overthrew the
presidencies of Ferdinand Marcos and Joseph Estrada. This shrine is a
towering proof that fighting for freedom doesn’t have to be a blood-spattered
cause. Rather, it can be achieved through peaceful means and with no casualty.

SMOKE AND GRILLED BALUT

One of the trendier food items that you will find in the Flavors of NCR food fair
is this smoked and grilled balut. A balut is a boiled fertilized duck egg and it is
also served, grilled over hot coals so it’s heated through before being cracked
open and topped with chili sauce. This version is topped with a sweet chili garlic
sauce with aligue or crab fat.

HALO-HALO
This Filipino bonne bouche is amongst the most famous food in Manila; if
you miss out on this, you are truly missing out. Shaved ice, and sweet
evaporated milk are the main ingredients and are topped with leche flan, egg
custard, coconut, sago, plantain, and jackfruit and there are endless options.
Many places have mastered the art of making halo halo, and some of the
most widely-known ones are Cafe Via Mare and Aristocrat's.

MECHADONG BAKA

Made by stewing meat in a tangy tomato sauce with potatoes and carrots,
mechadong baka, or beef mechado, is a popular dish in the Philippines. With
better availability of ingredients, this dish has evolved over time and can also be
found made with chicken, pork, or goat, but beef is the most traditional meat
and a slow cooking method makes it irresistibly flavorful and juicy.

Aliwan Festival is one of Metro Manila’s festivities. Aliwan is a tagalog word for
“entertainment” or “amusement.” It is one of the Philippines’ grandest fiestas that is being held
in Metro Manila during the summer months. It is an annual event that showcases the different
Filipino cultures and heritage.

La Loma’s Lechon Festival

La Loma is synonymous with one thing and one thing only - lechon -
and during May, the people of this district in the crossroads between
Manila and Quezon City celebrate their crispy-skinned claim to fame
by dressing up lechon and parading them down the main street. Just
like in a similar lechon festival in Balayan, Batangas, La Loma
doesn't only make the lechons look pretty for the big parade - half the
fun is chomping down on the oily and crunchy beauties.

MANNY PACQUIAO
Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao Sr. was born on December 17,
1978, and is a politician and former professional boxer from
the Philippines. He is recognized as one of the
best professional boxers of all time and has earned the
nickname “PacMan.” He formerly served as a Philippine
senator from 2016 until 2022. With twelve significant world
championships, Pacquiao is the only eight-division world
champion in boxing history. He was the first boxer to claim
the lineal title in five distinct weight divisions, the first to
capture significant world titles in four of the eight “glamour
divisions” (flyweight, featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight), and the only fighter to hold
the title for four decades in a row (the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s).

ANDRES BONIFACIO
Andres Bonifacio is regarded as the Father of the Philippine
Revolution against Spain. He also is known as the Father of
the Katipunan, a secret revolutionary society he founded in
1892 and whose goal was to win Philippine independence from
Spain by means of a revolution.
Bonifacio was born in Tondo, Manila on November 30, 1863. He came from a poor
background. His father was a tailor. He was the oldest of 6 children. His parents died when he
was only 14 years old and he had to stop school to help support his siblings.
Andres was an avid reader and read all of Rizal’s writings, the Bible, and the History of the
French Revolution. His leadership abilities enabled him to rally a big following as he prepared to
strike against the Spanish authorities. However, before his group could attack, they were
discovered by the parish priest in Tondo who reported them to the Spanish authorities.
