CPR Assignment

CPR is a lifesaving technique used when someone's breathing or heartbeat has stopped. It keeps oxygenated blood flowing until more definitive treatment can restore a normal heart rhythm. When performing CPR, there are several important steps to follow: 1) Call for emergency help, 2) Open the person's airway by tilting their head back and checking for obstructions, 3) Check for breathing - if absent, start CPR, 4) Perform 30 chest compressions followed by 2 rescue breaths, repeating in a continuous cycle until help arrives or the person starts breathing again. Proper CPR administration as soon as possible can dramatically increase the person's chances of survival.

Cardiopulmanary resuscitation or as known as CPR is a lifesaving technique useful in many

emergencies, including a heart attack or near drowning ,in which someone’s breathing or

heartbeat has stopped.CPR can keep oxygenated blood flowing to the brain and other vital
organs until more definitive medical treatement can restore a normal heart rhythm. When
the heart stops, the lack of oxygenated blood can cause brain damage in only a few
minutes.A person may die within eight to ten minutes.CPR does not guarantee
that the person will survive but it does give that person a chance
when otherwise there would have been none.if you are not sure
whether a person in cardiac arrest or not,you should start CPR.If a
person does not require CPR,they will probably respond to your
attempts.By performing CPR you are unlikely to cause any harm to
the person if they are not actually in cardiac arrest.

CPR is most successful when administered as quickly as possible. It should only be performed
when a persons shows no signs of life or when they are:
-unconscious
-unresponsive
-not breathing or not breathing normally

Before performing CPR,there are few of steps that we must follow to ensure the safety of
the victim. Here I will provides the steps for CPR.

Step 1-Call 999

First, always check and ensure the scene for factors that could put the victim and you in
danger.Such as traffic, fire or the construction area.Next, check the person whether they
need help or not.Tap their shoulder and shout clearly “Are you okay”?.

If they are not responding, immediately call 999 or ask the people nearby to call 999 before
performing CPR.If there are enough people to assist you,if possible go and search for an AED
machine in the offices or other public buildings.
Step 2-Place the person on their back and open their airways

Place the person on their back and kneel beside their chest to ease the CPR process.Tilt their
head back slightly by lifting their chin.

Slowly open their mouth and check or clear any obstruction like food, vomit or
dentures.Remove any obstruction if it is loose. If it is not loose, trying to grasp it may push it
farther.

Step 3-Check for breathing

Place your ear near or next to the person’s mouth and listen for no more than 10 seconds. If
no breathing,begin the CPR

If the victim is unconscious but still breathing,do not do the CPR.If they do not seem to have
spinal injury we just place them in recovery position.Monitor their breathing and perform
CPR if they stop breathing.

Step 4-Perform 30 chest compression

Place one of your hands on top of the other and interlock the fingers. With the heeling hands
and straight elbow, push hard and fast at the centre of the chest.

Push at least 2 inches deep.Compress their chest at rate of 100 times per minute.Let the
chest rise fully between the compression

Step 5-Perform 2 rescue breath

Tilt their head back slightly and lift their chin up.Pinch their nose to prevent oxygen from
going out.Place your mouth fully over theirs and blow to make their chest rise.

If their chest does not rise with first breath, retilt their head.
Step 6-Repeat

Repeat the cycle of 30 chest compressions and two rescue breaths until the person starts
breathing or help arrives. If an AED arrives, carry on performing CPR until the machine is set
up and ready to use.
