Jokers Are Not Included

The document contains 18 probability questions with calculations and explanations. It covers topics like finding the probability of drawing certain cards from a deck, probability of coin tosses and dice rolls, and conditional probability questions involving events that must occur together or in sequence. Sample space and counting favorable outcomes are used to calculate probabilities. Diagrams are provided for some multi-step questions to illustrate the relationships between events.

Question 1:

Pking = 4 / 52 = 1/13

Note: We have 4 kings in a deck (diamond, spade, clover or heart) out pf 52 cards standard deck
(Jokers are not included)

Question 2:

a) Pgreen = number of green marbles / total marbles = 6/(5+6+4) = 2/5

b) Pnot blue = (5 red + 6 green) / total = 11/(5+6+4) = 11/15

or using Complement Rule,

Pnot blue 1 - Pblue = 1- 4blue/15 total = 1 - 4/15 = 11/15

Question 3:

We have three odd numbers. (1, 3 or 5) out of 6 possible outcomes of a die.

Podd = 3/6 = 1/2

Question 4:

Pjack or queen = Pjack + Pqueen

Pjack or queen = 4/52 + 4/52 = 8/52 = 2/13

Note: We have 4 kings and 4 queens in a deck (diamond, spade, clover or heart). Also, 'or' uses
an addition (+) operation.

Question 5:

From 1-7, we have 4 odd numbers ('1', '3', '5' or '7')

Podd = 4/7
Question 6:

P7 = 0

There is no '7' in a single die numbered 1 to 6, thus, it is impossible.

Question 7:

The word PROBABILITY has 11 letters, in which we have 2 I's.

Pletter i = 2/11

Question 8:

P3 corrects = (P1. correct) (P2, correct) (P3, correct) = (0.25)(0.25)(0.25) = 1/64 = 0.016

Note: In each multiple-choice question, with 4 choices, we only have one correct answer. Thus,
Pcorrect = 1/4 = 0.25.

Question 9:

There are seven (7) perfect squares between 1 - 50 (including). 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49

Pperfect square = 7/50 = 0.14

Question 10:

Pdiamond or six = Pdiamond + Psix - Pdiamond and six

Pdiamond or six = 13/52 + 4/52 - 1/52 = 16/52 = 4/13

Note: 'diamond' and 'six' has common outcome. We have one (1) card in the deck that is both
diamond and a six at the same time.

Note: We have 13 diamond card int he deck and 4 six card.

Question 11:

Brown Eye Not Brown Eye Total

Adult 31 63 - 31 = 32 63
Children 29 37 - 29 = 8 37
Total 60 40 100

Out of 60 brown-eyed people, 29 of them were children. Thus, P = 29/60 = 0.483

Question 12:

P listen and dance music = 0.70(0.20) = 7/50 = 0.14

Note: 'and' means multiply.

Question 13:

P = (P1, tail) (P2, head) (P3, tail) = (0.5) (0.5) (0.5) = 1/8 = 0.125

Note: In a coin, we only have two outcomes (head or tail). Thus, in every toss, regardless of the
result, probability is always 1/2 = 0.50.

Question 14:

From our tree diagram above, notice that we have 12 possible outcomes. (2 outcomes for coin x
6 outcomes for dice =12).

Out of this, count the number of outcomes that has odd number on the die (1,3,5) and Head(H).

We have three outcomes, that is 1H, 3H and 5H.

P = 3/12 = 1/4 = 0.25

Question 15:

a) P red seven = 2/52

We have two red seven, 7Heart and 7 diamond.

b) We have total possible outcome of 62 =36, when we roll two dice each with 6 outcomes.

Out of these, we have three (3) results with both even: (2,2), (4,4) and (6,6).

Pboth even = 3/36 = 1/12

c) Sum of 12 could be (6,6), (7,5) and (8,4). We have three out of 82 = 64 possible combinations
of two spins.

Psum 12 = 3/64

Question 16:

Take Adv Functions and Calculus,

60 = a + 10

a = 50

Take Calculus and Data Management,

35 = c + 10

c = 25

Take Data management and Adv Functions,

13 = b + 10
b =3

For Advanced Functions (green circle),

Total = a + b + 10 + X

68 = 50 + 3 + 10 + X

X =5

For Data Management (maroon circle),

Total = b + c + 10 + Z

78 = 3 + 25 + 10 + Z

Z = 40

Therefore, total Calculus is,

Y = 200 - (a + b + c + X + Z + 10) = 67

a)

b) From the diagram above, out of 78 Data management, 35 of them took Calculus also.

P = 35/78 =0.449

Question 17:

Pwatch and more than one hour = 0.60(0.70) = 0.42

Note: 'and' means multiply.

Question 18:

Here, we have three possible scenarios in which of the three days, there will be a two-day rain.

P = (P1st day, rain) (P2nd day, rain) (P3rd day, not rain) + (P1, rain) (P2, not rain) (P3, rain) + (P1, not rain) (P2, rain) (P3, rain)

P = (0.7) (0.55) (1 - 0.4) + (0.7) (1 - 0.55) (0.4) + (1 - 0.7) (0.55) (0.4)

P = 0.423

Just comment down any clarifications. Hope thsi help and guide you :)
