Random Variable, Mathematical Expectation

This document discusses random variables and their probability distributions. It defines random variables as possible outcomes of random experiments that are associated with probabilities. There are two main types of random variables: discrete and continuous. Discrete random variables take countable values and have probability mass functions, while continuous random variables take uncountable values and have probability density functions. The document also discusses how to calculate the mean and variance of random variables.

What is Random Variable?
Random Variable is a set of possible values from
a random experiment, each value of which is
associated with a definite probability. Denoted by
X, Y or Z etc.
