Coding-Decoding
WHAT IS CODING?
Coding is a method of expressing something in a secret way.
WHAT IS DECODING?
Decoding is a process to understand a code language.
TYPES OF CODING
1, Letter Coding : Letters are used in forward or backward or both the directions for making
some code language.
2. Direct Letter Coding : Letters of a word are directly replaced by other letters.
3. Number/Symbol Coding : Numerals or symbols are assigned to words.
4, Substitution Coding : Some particular words are assigned to certain names.
If OJAMYTIR is the code for MAJORITY, which word is coded as SERPEVRE?
(A) PERSEVER (B) PRESERVE (C) PERSERVE (D) PRESEVER
Explanation (B) : Clearly, the code has been obtained by writing the first four and the last four
letters of the word in the reverse order. Thus, we have :
SERPEVRE => SERP/EVRE => PRES/ERVE => PRESERVE
Hence, the correct option is (B).

Hints & Explanations
1. (C): First, the letters of HEALTH are written —
in a reverse order and then each letter is
moved one step backward to obtain the
code. 4
2. (A): B,E, A, T are respectively the 24, 5th, |
1+, 20" letters from the beginning of the
‘one step forward to obtain the first letter
of the code, while the other letters remain
unaltered.
(D): The first, third and fifth letters of the
word are each moved one step backward,
the second, fourth and sixth letters are
English alphabet. The letters Y, V, Z, G of |
the code are respectively the 2", 5th,y3t
and 20" letters from the end of the English
alphabet. Use the same rule to find the |
code for MILD.
3. (B): The first letter of the word is moved
moved one, two and three steps forward
respectively to obtain the code.
5. (A): The first, second, third and fourth
letters of the word are moved two, four, sik
and eight letters forward respectively to
obtain the code.
6. (A): Each letter of the word is two stepsRRR nen
behind the corresponding letter of the
code.
7. (A): Each letter of the word is three steps
behind the corresponding letter of the
code.
8, (C): The word is divided into groups of
two letters each and the letters in each pair
are reversed to get the code.
