Bea : Robots are the biggest technological revolution that changed and will forever change the course of
humanity. The origins of robotics can be traced back to the late 20th century, when scientist and engineers
toyed with the concept of creating highly intelligent machines making them capable of going beyond
what was previously possible.
Lorejen: Robots are a type of automated machine programmed using computer or any power factor
devices. They are mechanical beings who are capable to execute specific tasks in a humanlike manner
with speed and precision with minimum to no human intervention.
Lorejen : Early robots were originally created to handle monotonous tasks such as factory works but with
the continually advancing technology and innovative minds, modern robots already involved artificial
intelligence as they can now be equipped with equivalent of human senses such as vision and hearing.
Some robots are even capable of facilitating decision-making and processing vast amount of data.
Kyna: Now, more than ever, robotics technology influences every aspect of our lives everywhere and at
any time. Indeed, the creation of robots benefits us a lot in many aspects especially now that we are living
in a very fast-paced world that requires quick and accurate responses to meet our daily demands. They
reduce human efforts and increase productivity within workplaces as they can ensure better accuracy of
work which most likely reduces human errors and harm as they can replace humans from performing
dangerous and difficult tasks that are repetitive and requires high precision.
Antonio: As robots become more versatile and accessible for the humanity their sole purpose was
extended for our daily convenience as they are now specifically classified into several types. Concrete
examples for these are the surveillance robots equipped with high resolution cameras that works to detect
any suspicious acts and generates alert accordingly through its sensors efficiently wherein if a human is
tasked to do the same duty, it would surely become more risky. Another one is the most prevalent robotic
vacuum cleaner that is really cost-efficient and much cheaper than housekeepers as it detects all levels of
dirt and low in maintenance but certainly does its work in no time while ensuring that every surface of
our houses are thoroughly cleaned.
Mervin: in 2005, a humanoid robot called the “Wakamaru” was developed and introduced by Mitsubishi
Heavy Industries to the public. This robot is designed to help in various tasks and address different needs
including companionship especially among lonely elderlies as they are very friendly in nature; they can
help carry conversations with people, shake hands, and recognize faces. Aside from those, we can also
use wakamaru as domestic and workplace assistant.
Sean:the development of this robot involved numerous tools and technologies including CAD software
for detailed 3d models, simulation software for its movement and interactions in virtual environment, and
other mechanical components like motors, gears, servos, and sensors which are all made using traditional
engineering and electronic design tools. The engineers used Printed Circuit Board design to manage
electronic system and control its sensory and processing capabilities, they also involved programming
languages to improve its interaction capabilities, and robot operating system to make communication
easier for hardware components and simplify the development of software and sensor technologies like
cameras and microphone that calibrates and collects data into the robot’s decision making process. The
engineers also used human machine interaction tools for creating user interface and programming the
response to human input or commands. The process of making Wakamaru is a very long one as it go
through component manufacturing of mechanical components such as the robot’s frame and other
structural components made from metals and plastics, electronic integration where all circuits and other
hardware are installed, installment of software controls for the robot’s responses and movements, power
system installation where batteries and other power sources are installed to provide electrical power for its
functions, testing and calibration to ensure proper functionality, fine tuning and optimization to refine
performance and algorithms and address issues during testing, and lastly the safety checks where robots
undergo safety assessments to ensure that they meet the specific standards and secure and make final
adjustments.
Rhon: This robot created by Mitsubishi heavy industries really fascinates and touches the depths of my
team’s mind. We can see that after all those long and scrutinize process of building, the Wakamaru robot
became one of the most successful inventions of the robotics industry.
Shan: Truly, when technology and innovation became integrated by one another we are able to explore
beyond what is discovered. Personally, as a person who got great interest in building different kinds of
things, I am extremely amazed on how did this company been able to pull off this kind of idea because it
does not only displays higher skill and intellectual capacity but also manifest the good will behind of such
innovative invention. The development of robots like wakamaru continuously contributes to the
advancements of technology and artificial intelligence as they serve as test beds for exploring new
approach in robotics and sustainable industries
Kyna : As a youth, I suppose that investing ourselves in these kind of modern technology could help us
to keep up with the calls of our society and our fellow men on numerous aspects of our lives, from
economical up to social and even environmental.
Shan: that is certainly true! Sometimes, creating various types of robot can be challenging because you
have to be paying attention to all the pieces you put into it but still be fun especially if it did turn out the
way you wanted it to be, doing its intended purpose.
Bea: Changes in our world are truly inviolable; we cannot do anything about it other than living through
it. Studying in field of robotics is a big step to take in order to understand and keep up with the
technology-centered generation we live in right now. Studying robotics actually awakens our innovative
selves to come up with advanced logical and technical solutions in addressing and responding to different
kinds of circumstances surrounding our world through small creative inventions.
Chelsea: moreover, studying robotics not only benefit one person but a community as a whole since
through robotics we’ll became able to understand the true meaning of teamwork and collaboration as we
exchange different resources and ideas and provide each other support for a common goal. Aside from
that, we also believe that creativity is built through robotics as we became more experimental in trying
different new ideas and helps us acquire growth mindset as we handle the failures and difficulties we
might encounter while creating and programming robots.
Bea: all in all, we believe that studying robotics is truly an essential competency especially now that we
are living in the 21st world. Being in the world of robotics helps kids like us to develop skills and
knowledge we need at very young age in order to build a strong foundation of success in this fast-paced
digital world not just in terms of logical and technological math and science aspect but also our
understanding of the possibilities that we could take advantage of in order to solve numerous concerns
and contribute in improving and betterment of the world in the near future.
