Lee Vs Grant
At the end of the Civil War, two great men found themselves in a bind. Robert E. Lee,
commander of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, had a slew of wounded and
malnourished soldiers, and nothing to feed them. Ulysses S. Grant, commander of the
Union Army, had resources to spare and extended an offer of surrender in exchange for
those rations. Lee accepted, and therefore forfeit the Civil War to the Union Army.
Throughout their four year struggle for victory, the two men underwent many trials, and
ultimately came to a consensus that the carnage had to come to an end. Although Lee
and Grant had drastically different approaches to the way they commanded their
respective armies, both went down in American History as heroes. Robert E. Leewas
fanatic about the caliber of his work and held those around him to extremely high
standards, which led to his eventual downfall, and decision to surrender at Appomattox.
Throughout his life, Lee was noted as being incredibly dedicated to his duties, and
oftentimes even put his job over his family. Historians say that he held himself to a very
high standard and expected no less from those who served under... Show more content on

Lee s legacy is held in some controversy. While those closest to him would remember
him as the reason for thousands of deaths, many politicians revered his efforts and
praised him for his service. According to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, we remember
Robert E. Lee as one of our great American Christians History remembers Lee as one of
the greatest war generals of all time. On the other hand, although Grant did win the
war, I do not think his efforts are remembered in such great magnitude as Lee s.
Perhaps this is because he did not have to put up as valiant of a fight as Lee, whose
army had a natural disadvantage. Grant s army simply had more weapons and more men,
which were simple factors, but factors worth everything in this
Essay On Harvest Losses Of India In India
WASTING HARVEST AND WORSENING FOOD SECURITY IN INDIA
Abstract
India has been facing a paradoxical situation of decaying harvest in one side and
starving poor on the other. Lack of adequate cold chain infrastructure and a supportive
food processing industry leads to wastage of about 30 percent of all food produced; cause
India to experience some of the highest food losses in the world. Reduction of post
harvest losses become the component of food security, the current scenario in Indian
agriculture poses a threat to the successful implementation of the National Food Security
Act (NFSA) in India. This paper aims to examine the issue of post harvest losses in
Indian agriculture in the context of NFSA enacted in India in 2013. The foremost ... Show

The post harvest losses in India amount to 12 to 16 million metric tons of food grains
each year. With an average per capita consumption of about 15 kg of food grains per
month, these losses would be enough to feed about 70 100 million people, i.e., about
one third of India s poor or the entire population of the states of the Bihar and Haryana
together for about one year. The monetary value of these losses amounts to more than
Rs. 50000 crores per year (Singh, 2010). It is estimated that 7 percent of the grain rots
in fields and open godowns. Annual wastage of fruits and vegetables is estimated to
range from 5.8 to 18 percent having value of Rs. 13309 crores. This has been leading to
the paradox of decaying buffer stock in one side and starving poor on the other.
Food production is the base for food security (Swaminathan and Bhavani, 2013). Food
security, both in terms of availability and access to food, poses a challenge to rapidly
growing populations, in environments of dwindling land and water resources. India s
population is growing faster than its ability to produce rice and wheat (Sengupta, 2008).
Although India is a major producer of horticultural crops, many Indians are unable to
obtain their daily requirement of fruits and vegetables and the Human Development
Index (HDI) is very low. Considerable quantities of fruits and vegetables produced in
India go to waste owing to
Catcher In The Rye Synthesis Essay
Obliquely searching for good in the adult world, or at least something to mitigate his
despair, Holden is continually confronted with the absence of good. (Baumbach 62)
The search for good, integrity, or sincerity in the adult worlds seems to be an unfeasible
task. In reaching the age of adulthood, adults are given unrealistic ideals which seem
impossible to conquer honestly. To cope with these challenges, adults develop opinions
on outward judgments instead of closer and more reliable observations. The Catcher in
the Rye by J.D. Salinger and All the King s Men by William Penn Warren both want to
demonstrate the struggles, and the insincerity in adulthood, that stems from adults
natural tendency to be superficial; to accomplish this they use colloquialisms, tone,
metaphors, and the arrangement of their text. For the first example of a literary device,
Holden Caulfield uses colloquialism to portray his youth and his separation from
adulthood. I m the one that s flunking out of the goddam place, and you re asking me to
write you a goddam composition. (Salinger 16) In this passage, Holden uses
colloquialisms, such as goddam , instead of more formal adultlanguage. The Catcher in
the Rye is not only a literary work but also an example of teenage slang in the 1950s.
(Zavari 508) Holden s language represents not just his own youth, but the youth of his
generation, and J. D. Salinger does this to show their rejection of the phoniness of
adulthood.
On the same topic, phony,

Technology can be very helpful in life and can give you options for school classes or

This article portrays the point that even though technology is major in Vishal s life it is
hurting him in what will make his future, education. For example, Vishal s principle
states that he use to be a very bright student, but has lost the spark. One last point that is
made in this article talks about how hands on technology can help you in school, but in
other opinions it can hurt you and make it impossible to concentrate. Between two very
smart men they talk about whether, Technology might be the reason Vishal seems to
lose interest in academics the minute he leaves class, (9) or if technology is how you
reach out to students and find their passion in academics. This section of the article is all
about the discussion of whether technology connect students to school or does it separate
them from academics. The very last section in the article strives to the point that Vishal,

to lower, due to technology and film
