Periodicity and Extreme Values

The document discusses periodic functions and their properties. It defines a periodic function as a real function f(x) that satisfies f(x+p)=f(x) for some positive real number p, called the fundamental period. It then provides the periods of common trigonometric functions like sin(ax+b), cos(ax+b), tan(ax+b), and their inverses. It also discusses how to find the period of a function that is a combination of trigonometric functions using the least common multiple. The document concludes with some standard results about the maximum and minimum values of trigonometric functions and expressions.

Periodicity and Extreme Values

Periodic Function: A real function f:A→R is said to be periodic function if there exists
positive real numbers p such that f(𝑥 + 𝑝)=𝑓(𝑥), ∀ 𝑥 ∈ 𝐴.Least value of p is known as
fundamental period of f

If f is periodic function with fundamental period p then -f and 𝑓
are also a periodic
function with period p.
