Community Outreach at Sitio Paglaum Day Care Center

HUMSS 12.3 Narrative Report

June 7, 2023
Sitio Paglaum Day Care Center
Community Outreach Program

On June 7, a community outreach program was conducted at Sitio Paglaum Day Care Center, aimed to
give assistance to the children in the local community. The event was organized by our Community
Engagement and Solidarity subject teacher Ma'am Arfel Irish Joie Nicolas with the participation of the
Humss 12.3 students. 46 students contributed 70 pesos to buy the following: 1 sack of rice, canned goods,
bread, and juice. When working with children, effective communication is key. We learned to adapt our
language, tone, and approach to suit the individual needs and abilities of each child. We developed
patience and the ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms.

The objectives of the community outreach program are: to engage with the children of Sitio Paglaum,
establish meaningful connections, give relief to the children whose parents are in financial difficulties,
promote positive change, improve the well-being of the community through engagementc, and lastly to
create a positive impact on the lives of the children.

Activities:

1. Games - Paper dance & Blowing yarn

2. Feeding Program
3. Giving of food packs

Outcomes:

1.The games encouraged the children to actively participate and interact with us students, fostering a
sense of belonging, community spirit and unity.
2.The feeding program brings the students and the children together in one space, fostering a sense of
support. By gathering around, the children can develop social connections, happiness, and strong bond
whilst eating.
3.For children whose parents are facing economic challenges, receiving food packs can help alleviate the
financial strain of purchasing groceries. This can free up resources to be used for other essential needs,
such as healthcare, education, and etc.

Over all the community outreach program at Sitio Paglaum Day Care Center proved to be a resounding
success, creating a positive impact on the children and help their families. Through various activities, the
program fostered social interaction and enjoyment. The dedication of us students and the guidance of
Ma'am Arfel contributed to the overall success of the event. The outreach program served as a stepping
stone towards a brighter and more empowered future for us students and also the children at Sitio
Paglaum.
