CLIMATE

The document discusses climate change, its causes, effects, and initiatives to address it. It defines climate change as a long-term shift in temperatures and weather patterns due mostly to human activities like burning fossil fuels. This produces heat-trapping gases and leads to rising sea levels, melting glaciers, and more extreme weather. While some causes are natural, human activities like deforestation and pollution are major contributors. The impacts of climate change are felt globally and affect regions like Australia, the US, India, and the Arctic in different ways. Addressing climate change requires global cooperation as well as individual actions like using renewable energy and sustainable practices.

CHANGE
WHAT IS CLIMATE
CHANGE?
CLIMATE CHANGE IS THE LONG-TERM SHIFT IN THE
EARTH'S AVERAGE TEMPERATURES AND WEATHER
CONDITIONS.

THESE CHANGES MAY BE NATURAL BUT ARE

MOSTLY DUE TO HUMAN ACTIVITY ONE OF WHICH IS
THE BURNING OF FOSSIL FUELS WHICH PRODUCES
HEAT-TRAPPING GASES.

THIS INCLUDES RISING OF SEA LEVELS,SHRINKING OF

MOUNTAIN GLACIERS, ICE MELT, SHIFT IN FLOWER
BLOOMING TIME,SEVERE HEAT WAVES.
CAUSES OF
CLIMATE CHANGE
VARAITION IN SOLAR ENERGY RAPID INDUSTRALIZATION AND
URBANISATION
HUGE EMISSION OF HARMFUL
GASES BY BURNING OF FOSSIL
FUELS DEFORESTATION

VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS USE OF CHEMICAL BASED

FERTILIZERS
EXCESSIVE METHANE EMISSION
FOREST FIRES
GLOBAL WARMING
POLLUTION
UNECESSARY USE OF
AUTOMOBILES
HOW IS CLIMATE CHANGE AFFECTING THE WORLD
TODAY?
CLIMATE CHANGE IS A GLOBAL PHENOMENON WHICH IS IMPACTING DIFFERENT REGIONS AROUND THE WORLD

Australia is an island nation that has to undergo a series of repercussions of climate

AUSTRALIA : change and is on the verge of experiencing a rise in sea level which in turn affects the
monsoon pattern hence developing conditions of El Nino.

The U.S. has faced an increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events,
UNITED STATES: including hurricanes, wildfires, and heat waves. The impacts are felt in various regions,
affecting communities, agriculture, and ecosystems.

India has witnessed changes in precipitation patterns, leading to more intense and
INDIA: unpredictable monsoons. This has resulted in floods in some areas and droughts in
others, affecting agriculture and water resources.

The Arctic is warming at more than twice the global average rate, leading to the melting
ARCTIC REGION: of sea ice and permafrost. This has consequences for indigenous communities, wildlife,
and global sea levels.
HOW CLIMATE CHANGE HAS CAUSED DAMAGE
High Temperature and vector bone diseases. The danger of the emergence
of pathogens that have been frozen under the permafrost for a long time
might come up and spread incurable infection.

LOSS OF BIODIVERSITY

REDUCED ECONOMIC OUTPUT AND GROWTH

INCREASED RISK OF WATER SECURITY DUE TO DROUGTHS AND SEA STROMS

INITATIVES TAKEN BY THE GOVERNMENT TO
COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE
Renewable Energy Policies: Governments often implement policies to promote the use of
renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal power. This can include
incentives, subsidies, and regulations to encourage the adoption of clean energy technologies

National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC): The plan was adopted on 30th June 2008 and
has 8 actionable targets ranging from National Solar Mission to National Mission on Strategic
Knowledge for Climate Change

Encourage Electric Vehicle: The Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric and Hybrid Vehicle
provides an incentive of INR 10,000 for every kWh of battery capacity.

Carbon Farming: It aims to sequester Carbon released into agricultural practices.

COP 28

ITS THE 28TH CONFERENCE MEETING WHICH TOOK PLACE IN UAE, DUBAI

THE MAIN AGENDA OF THIS CONFERENCE WAS TO KEEP THE GLOBAL TEMPERATURE LIMIT OF 1.5 WITHIN
REACH BY REDUCING THE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION OF FOSSIL FUELS.

OIL COMPANIES HAVE DECIDED TO ACHEIVE ZERO METHANE EMISSION BY 2030

A DECLARATION WAS SIGNED TO LESSEN THE IMPACTS OF CLIMATE ON FOOD INDUSTRY

VARIOUS COUNTRIES HAVE DECIDED TO RECOGNISE CLEAN HYDROGEN CERTIFICATION SCHEMES.

IT IS DECIDED TO CUT THE USE OF FOSSIL FUELS AS IT PROMOTES TO 80% OF GLOBAL WARMING.

IT IS OFFICIALLY REPORTED TO BE THE HOTTEST YEAR DUE TO ANTHROPROGENIC ACTIVITIES

VARIOUS COUNTRIES HAVE SIGNED TO REDUCE THE EMISSION OF COOLING SECTORS BY 2050
HOW DO PEOPLE FEEL ABOUT CLIMATE
CHANGE
TWO TYPES ARE CATEGORIZED AS BELIEVERS AND DENIERS BUT ACCORDING TO
THE YALE CLIMATE COMMUNICATION PROGRAM, THERE ARE TWO SETS OF PEOPLE
ONE IS ALARMED AND CONCERNED. THE CONCERNED POPULATION IS AWARE
THAT CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL AND HUMAN-CAUSED THEY ARE ENGAGED IN
CLIMATE ACTION BUT ARE LESS MOTIVATED TO ACT WHILE THE ALARMED
POPULATION IS QUESTIONING THE REALITY OF CLIMATE CHANGE BUT ACCORDING
TO THE WORLD FORUM, THE NUMBER IS GETTING LESSER. PEOPLE COME UP WITH
A SOLUTION BUT ARE DOUBTFUL ABOUT THEIR IDENTITY AND WHETHER THEIR
SOLUTION WILL IMPROVE OR WORSEN CLIMATE CHANGE.
SOLUTIONS TO CONTROL CLIMATE CHANGE
PERSONALLY, I'VE MADE A CONSCIOUS EFFORT TO SAVE ELECTRICITY BY ENSURING THAT I TURN OFF ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES WHEN THEY'RE
NOT IN USE. SIMPLE HABITS LIKE THIS CONTRIBUTE TO A REDUCTION IN ENERGY CONSUMPTION, AND IT'S REASSURING TO KNOW THAT EVEN
THESE SMALL ACTIONS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

FOR COVERING SHORT DISTANCES, I'VE INCORPORATED WALKING INTO MY ROUTINE. IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT THE HEALTH BENEFITS; CHOOSING
TO WALK OVER USING A VEHICLE FOR SHORT DISTANCES IS MY WAY OF MINIMIZING MY CARBON FOOTPRINT. IT FEELS LIKE A SMALL
CONTRIBUTION, BUT EVERY STEP COUNTS IN THE LARGER PICTURE.

ENGAGING IN GROUP DISCUSSIONS ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENTAL CRISIS HAS BEEN AN ENLIGHTENING EXPERIENCE. TOGETHER, WE'VE
BRAINSTORMED IDEAS AND DECIDED TO TAKE A PROACTIVE STEP BY STARTING A COMMUNITY. THIS COMMUNITY AIMS TO BE A HUB FOR
DIVERSE SOLUTIONS, A PLACE WHERE COLLECTIVE EFFORTS CAN BE CHANNELED INTO MEANINGFUL ACTIONS TO ADDRESS ENVIRONMENTAL
CHALLENGES.

ON A PERSONAL LEVEL, I'VE ADOPTED THE HABIT OF DISPOSING OF GARBAGE IN ITS APPROPRIATE PLACE. IT'S A SMALL ACT, BUT IT REFLECTS
MY COMMITMENT TO MAINTAINING A CLEAN ENVIRONMENT AND RESPECTING THE SPACES WE INHABIT. I BELIEVE IN LEADING BY EXAMPLE, SO I
MAKE SURE TO PASS ON INFORMATION ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES TO THOSE WHO MAY NOT BE AWARE. SPREADING AWARENESS IS
CRUCIAL IN BUILDING A COLLECTIVE UNDERSTANDING OF THE CHALLENGES WE FACE.

IN ESSENCE, I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT EACH INDIVIDUAL HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO MOTHER EARTH. BY EMBRACING THESE CHANGES AT AN
INDIVIDUAL LEVEL, I AM OPTIMISTIC THAT, COLLECTIVELY, WE CAN MAKE STRIDES TOWARD REDUCING, AND PERHAPS ONE DAY, ERADICATING
THE ENVIRONMENTAL CRISES WE CURRENTLY FACE. IT'S A SHARED DUTY THAT REQUIRES OUR ATTENTION, AND I'M COMMITTED TO PLAYING MY
PART.
THANK YOU!
