Veritas Volume Replicator
SORT Data Collector is Operating System specific; correct Data Collector needs to be selected to match the
system from or on which data collection will be run. It operates on the principle of a central collection point
and is the preferred Method. You run the Data Collector on one Server, but you can use it to gather information
on any system in your environment.
The Services and Operational Readiness Tool (SORT) web site is where the Data Collectors are available for
Veritas Products. The below figure shows Data Collectors for different Operating Systems/Platforms :
VIOM can serve as an alternate data gathering method; however, VIOM is a viable option only if it is actively
used to manage the Veritas InfoScale/Storage Foundation/Veritas Cluster environment. VIOM can only report
on Servers that are registered to the VIOM Management Server.
Note: To run the data collector, you must have administrator privileges.
2. Copy the SORT Data Collector (WinDC_GUI.exe) to the Server where InfoScale is installed or to the Server
from where data collection will be run. In the Windows Data Collector download directory, double-click
“WinDC_GUI.exe”.
4. On the Welcome screen, select the product family “Storage Foundation / Veritas InfoScale”, and click
“Next”.
If you want to generate a Sanitized report, where the IPs and hostnames are masked, please check/tick
the following option which is present at the bottom of the Welcome screen before clicking “Next”.
5. On the System Selection screen, select the systems for which you want to generate the report.
The “Systems” field displays your local computer. Do one of the following and click “Next”.
b. To select other systems, enter them in the System field or click Browse. If you specify multiple system
names, separate them with commas. If you click Browse, a list of available systems appears in a pop-
up window. Use < and > to add or remove systems from the list. When you are done, click Add.
Note: You only need to specify one system in a Veritas cluster. The data collector discovers the others
automatically.
6. On the Validation Options screen, select only the “License / Deployment Report” option and click on “Next”.
7. The Data Collector will then start gathering “License / Deployment Report” related information for
“Storage Foundation / Veritas InfoScale” Product family for all the added Servers in a single file.
On the Summary screen, click on “Save” to save the generated report. The report will be saved in “.xml”
format. After the report is saved, click “Finish” to exit the Data Collector.
2. Copy the SORT Data Collector (WinDC_CLI.exe) to the Server where InfoScale is installed or to the Server
from where data collection will be run.
Notes:
* Do not put a space between the “-o” option and the directory name.
*If the directory you specify does not exist, it is created for you.
If you want to mask the IPs and hostnames, enter the above-mentioned command using
“decorator=yes” option as shown below :
Example :
C:\Users\Downloads\Sort_win_cli\WinDataCollector>WinDataCollector.exe /s update=No id=lic_inv
node="Server101, Server102, Server103" resultsdir="C:\Users\Downloads\SORT_WIN_REPORTS "
upload=No decorator=yes
Where,
10
target : To specify machine name within quotes, you can input multiple targets (separated by comma).
resultsdir : To specify results directory within quotes to save the report in that directory
decorator=yes : To run the Data Collector with all your IPs and host names masked in Data Collector reports
4. The generated report will be saved in .xml format in the directory specified with “resultsdir” option.
1. Download the latest SORT Data Collector for the Linux/UNIX Operating System matching with the
Platform of the Server on which Data Collector will be run. In the Platform column, click the operating
system on which you will run the data collector.
Following table mentions direct URLs to download the Data Collectors for specified Platforms:
Note: If you want to use SFTP or FTP to transfer the data collector “.sh” file to a remote system, use binary mode;
otherwise, when the file is decompressed, a corrupted data error or checksum failed execution error occurs.
a. On the system that will run the data collector, uncompress the data collector file by entering one of
the following commands. Please note that it needs to be run as “root” user.
# sh <filename>.sh
OR
11
# ./<filename>.sh
where <filename> is in the form “sort_” followed by the operating system type.
If you already have a data collector installed, the script prompts you if you want to back up the sort
directory.
b. At the prompt, specify whether you want to run the data collector. Please enter “y”.
3. When prompted to select the Product and the task to accomplish, please select “Storage Foundation and
HA Solutions / InfoScale Solutions” and “License/Deployment report” respectively.
4. After selecting the Product family, you will be asked to select the Systems from which data needs to be
gathered. Following are the three methods using which you can choose to provide the System names
You can specify multiple system names separated by space or a range of IP addresses.
5. For recommended inputs to the other interactive questions, please refer the example for Linux Server
mentioned below; similar options should be selected for Solaris SPARC/Solaris x86/AIX Servers.
6. Once the tool completes collecting the required information, it will generate 3 files of the formats “.xlsx”,
“.xml” and “.txt” which are the License/deployment reports. The location of these files will be mentioned
on the screen as shown in the example below, they would be stored in the “reports” directory under “sort”
folder.

hosts) are registered and reporting fine to the VIOM Management Server.
19
3. On the Licensing page, go to the “Deployment details” tab and wait for the list of servers to populate. Please
uncheck the “Hide non chargeable licenses” option and select “Group by” option as “None”.
