Communication Host

The document describes communication between an Eos Forte analyzer and a host computer. It allows: 1) The host computer to import worklists by selecting methods from a list and sending them to Eos Forte via a shared folder. 2) Eos Forte to export results and other analysis information back to the host computer via the shared folder. 3) The files used for worklists and results are in Microsoft Access (.mdb) format to allow sharing between Windows systems.

COMMUNICATION EOS FORTE - HOST COMPUTER

1 - FUNCTIONS
Host computer and Eos Forte share these functions :

 Import function
On host computer user can select methods choosing them from a list and send worklists to
Eos Forte

Method list
Shared folder Host
Eos Forte
(Worklist.mdb) PC
PC
Worklist

 Export function
On host computer user can receive results and other information about analysis from Eos
Forte

Eos Forte Shared folder Host

Results
PC (Result.mdb) PC

2 - FILE FORMAT
Eos Forte uses an its own format for methods, worklists and results files.
In order to share information with external Windows environment a classic Windows format has
been chosen, so both result, worklist and method list files are written in Access format ( .mdb files)

3 - OPERATION MODES
Communication between Eos Forte and host computer can be performed through these ways:
Eos Forte PC is connected to a local net and some files are shared (NET MODE)
3.1 - NET MODE
Host PC and Eos Forte PC share a folder : C:\EosBF\Host.
Inside this folder “Worklist.mdb” and “Results.mdb” files let the user input worklist towards Eos
Forte and receive result from equipment

3.1.1 – IMPORT FUNCTION : EDIT WORKLIST ON HOST PC

Worklist file(“Worklist.mdb”) is an Access Database with four tables.

1. Table Dilution List : table with available dilution on sample

Fields:
Dilution Values: Type: String Values: from 4/1 to 1/50
2. Table Position List : table with available position on tray
Fields:
Position Values: Type: String Values: from 1 to 59
3. Table Method List : table with available method on equipment
Fields:
 Enabled: Type : Boolean
Note : If this field is false It means that method can not be performed because some
method parameters have a not valid value

 Locked: Type : Boolean

Note: If this field is false It means that some problem on equipment don’t allowed method
to be performed

 Label: Type : String

Note: This field contain a description of the method

Anytime method database has been modified in Eos Forte PC, the Method list table is automatically
modified by the software according to the new configuration of the methods.
These three tables have not to be modified by the user.

4. Table Work List : table by which user can input a worklist

Fields:
ID: Sample ID Type : String Values: only numeric chars from 1 to 999999999
Note : a row of the table can not be saved without having input sample ID

Name: Patient Name Type : String (max 50char)

Note: this field is not necessary
 Surname: Patient Surname Type : String(max 50char)
Note: this field is not necessary
Position: Sample Position on tray Type: String Values: from 1 to 59
Note: user has to choose from the available values

Dilution: Sample Dilution Type: String Values: from 4/1 to 1/50

Note: user has to choose from the available values

Method (1-35) : programmed analysis Type: String

Note: user has to choose from the available methods

The worklist table have to be programmed by the user on Access Window(figure below) in order to
export a worklist towards Eos Forte.

Then user can import worklist on Eos Forte by using command “Import” on Edit Worklist
Menu(figure below).
3.1.2 – EXPORT FUNCTION : SEND RESULTS TO HOST PC
Result file(“Result.mdb”) is an Access Database, that includes some results coming from Eos Forte
Database.
Inside result file a table is located:

1. Table List : table with exported result

Fields:
 Sample ID: Type : String

 Method Label: Type : String

 Method ID: Type : String

 Result: Type : String

Note : this field includes concentration result with measure unit

 ABS Result: Type : String

Note: this field includes ABS point for endpoint methods and ABS variation for kinetics
and fixed time methods

 ABS1….10: Type : String

Note : this fields include all ABS points for kinetic methods

 Tick1…..10: Type : String

Note : this fields include all time points for kinetic methods

 Date: Type : Date

 Lot: Type : String

 User ID: Type : String

Note : this field identifies user that has performed methods

 Pathologic: Type : Boolean

Note: If this field is true It means that method has not satisfied normality limits
 Accepted: Type : Boolean
Note: If this field is true It means that method has been accepted

 Validated: Type : Boolean

Note: If this field is true It means that method has been validated

 Recalculated: Type : Boolean

Note: If this field is true It means that method has been recalculated

 ReRun: Type : Boolean

Note: If this field is true It means that method has been rerun

 Calibration Expired: Type : Boolean

Note : If this field is true It means that method calibration has expired

 Reagent Expired: Type : Boolean

Note: If this field is true It means that method reagent has expired

Regent Date Expired: Type : Boolean

Note : If this field is true It means that method reagent expire date has been reached

 Calibrator Expired: Type : Boolean

Note: If this field is true It means that method calibrator has expired

Calibrator Date Expired: Type : Boolean

Note : If this field is true It means that method calibrator expire date has been reached

 Control Expired: Type : Boolean

Note: If this field is true It means that method control has expired

Control Date Expired: Type : Boolean

Note : If this field is true It means that method control expire date has been reached

 Linearity Error: Type : Boolean

Note: If this field is true It means that method has not satisfied linearity limits

 Fluctuation Error: Type : Boolean

Note : If this field is false It means that kinetic method has not satisfied fluctuation limit
 Extrapolation Error: Type : Boolean
Note: If this field is false It means that method has not satisfied extrapolation limit

Reagent Substrate Error: Type : Boolean

Note: If this field is false It means that method has not satisfied substrate ABS limit

In order to export some data from Eos Forte user has to searching for desired data on database by
using query, then by selecting Export command (figure below) these data are copied on a result file
(“Result.mdb”) inside shared folder C:\EosBF\Host

Host PC will be able to manage or open an Access File :
