What is MPLS ?

 Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS) is a type of data-

carrying technique that directs data from one router to the
next

 It uses short path labels rather than long network

addresses, avoiding complex lookups in a routing table

 MPLS is a partitioned private network over common shared

IP-MPLS backbone employing data privacy and security
technologies i.e.; VPN built over MPLS enabled network

 Advantages:
 Simple addition of new sites
 Data, voice and video traffic on the same network
 No routing management headache

Scalable, Reliable and Flexible connectivity on a single network
