2- A system is described by the following differential equation:
⃛𝑦 + 3𝑦̈ +5 𝑦̇ + y = 𝑥⃛ + 4𝑥̈ + 6𝑥̇ + 8x
Find the expression for the transfer function of the system, Y(s)/X(s).
3- Write the differential equation for the system shown below:
4- Consider a system is represented by the transfer function
𝑋(𝑠) 𝑆+1
𝐻 (𝑠) = =
𝑈(𝑠) 𝑆 3 +2𝑆 2 +3𝑆+2

(a) What is the order of the system? What differential equation does
this transfer function represent?
(b) Obtain the poles and zeros of the system. You can use the roots
command in MATLAB to obtain the poles. Do you expect to
see oscillations in the free or step response of the system? Do
you expect the response to decay with time or grow?
(c) Use the final value theorem to obtain the final value of the
response to a unit step response.
(d) Use the initial value theorem to obtain the initial value of the
response right after application of a unit impulse to the system.
(e) Use the step command in MATLAB to plot the response of the
system to a unit step input, that is plot x(t) when u(t) = 1(t).
What is the final value you see in the plot.
(f) Use the impulse command in MATLAB to plot the response of the
system to a unit impulse input, that is plot x(t) when u(t) = (t).
What is the initial value you see in the plot.
(g) Use the lsim command in MATLAB to simulate the response to
the input sin(4t) and plot x(t). Use a time span of 20 seconds
and a sampling time of 0.01 seconds.
(h) To understand the effect of zero on the system response assume
the zero is now at 1 instead of -1 and use MATLAB to plot the
response of this new system to a unit step command.
