2 My First Day High
My Objectives
At the end of this episode, I should be able to meet my cooperating teacher
and students. I will identify the expectations of my cooperating teacher and observe how the students interact with their teacher(s). I will also extend my assistant in the daily routinary activities of my school.
My Directions
To get to know my cooperating school better, I must do the following
tasks:
Observe well.
Write down notes.
Extend assistance when needed.
My Tasks
On the board, I will be writing the cooperating teacher’s expectations that
I need to fully understand during my teaching internship days to establish better relationships. Likewise, I will also be writing my expectations that I need to convey to my cooperating teacher in order that my needs are also understood or met.
My Cooperating Teacher’s Expectations
First and foremost, my
cooperating teacher expects me to always maintain a good and positive attitude, especially towards the students and the other teachers and non-teaching personnel, which will help me establish a better relationship with each other.
Moreover, he expects me to be good at preparing a lesson and in teaching and handling students because he believes that every PST deployed from DNSC has those qualities.
Lastly, my cooperating teacher
expects me to be obedient, respectful, and come to school on time.
My Expectations As a pre-service teacher at a well-known institution, I am expecting a lot of work to be done, especially since my cooperating teacher has an advisory class and handles four sections. Thus, I am expecting to do things such as cleaning and organizing the classroom and giving of announcements and/or reminders. I am also expecting to design lesson plan/s that integrate different teaching approaches and techniques. Moreover, I am anticipating that my cooperating teacher will share with me his expertise and knowledge about mathematics, as well as in handling and teaching different type of learners, especially in addressing their needs. Above all, I expect that my cooperating teacher will guide and help me throughout my internship journey.
1. In the observation phase, I need to focus on the following:
The school policies and guidelines, as well as the rules and
regulations given by my cooperating teacher.
The preparation of the lesson plans and other instructional
materials.
The classroom management/routines of my cooperating
teacher.
The behavior of the learners and how they interact with the teacher.
How the teacher interacts with the learners and the ways he delivers his lessons.
How my cooperating teacher motivate the learners to
participate in his class. 2. Why do I need to establish a harmonious relationship with my cooperating teacher?
As a pre-service teacher, going on this journey alone is difficult.
This is the main reason why we need to build harmonious relationships with our cooperating teacher. For me, they were the one who could help and guide me in terms of handling different types of learners and addressing their needs. The experiences and knowledge he share with me, as well as his expertise in the world of teaching, will help me accomplish the tasks given to me.
3. What do I need to do to get along well with the non-teaching staff?
Aside from building a good relationship with my cooperating
teacher and the other teachers, it is also essential that I get along well with the non-teaching staff. For starters, greeting them with a smile every time our paths cross will surely lighten their day, especially since they are the ones who maintain the cleanliness of the school and ensure the students and the teachers are safe and secure inside the school premises. Above all, treat them with respect, regardless of their position in the school.

Dr. Nancy B. Gonzales, the new principal of La Filipina National High School. From what I have observed and experienced during her introduction, I could say that she was very strict in terms of following the school policies and guidelines. However, she was so kind and accommodating that whenever we met her or saw her in the hallway, or when we visited her in her office, we wouldn’t be afraid of her since she smiles as always.
