Basic Productivity Presentation Tool Lesson Idea

This lesson plan proposes using Microsoft Sway to help 2nd grade students learn about historical figures from Georgia history. Students will create digital presentations about a figure of their choice, adding audio, video, pictures and captions. The teacher will introduce Sway, show example resources, and monitor students as they work. Students will present their Sways to each other and take notes. This allows students choice in topics while developing communication skills through digital creation and collaboration.

Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy Level(s): (Which level(s) will this lesson meet using this technology
tool?)

☐ Remembering ☐ Understanding ☐ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☐ Creating

How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply. (Sometimes only one option will
apply.)

☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.

☐ Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom

blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.

Lesson idea implementation: I plan for students to address standard SS2H1 by creating a
digital presentation using the software Sway. Students will create a presentation about a
historical figure of their choice. I will introduce the software Sway by sharing a Martin Luther
King Sway presentation I created. I will also show students how to access several videos to
help them add audio, pictures, text, and videos to their personal Sway presentation. I will make
students aware of learning goals by addressing them at the beginning of the lesson. I will also
depict the learning goals in student friendly language on the board for students to reference
throughout the lesson. I will be able to monitor and give feedback on students' presentations by
having each student grant me access to view their Sway presentation throughout the lesson. I
will conclude my lesson by having students present and take notes on their classmates Sway
presentation.

Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology: I will manage classroom behaviors on the
technology by actively viewing students' presentations throughout the lesson. This will let me
note who needs to be redirected, who is excelling, and who needs assistance. I will then have
students help each other by pairing up to do peer reviews.
Microsoft Sway has a share feature that allows others to view and edit the same
presentation. This will further promote collaboration, co-use, and co engagement in the
classroom. I will also create a detailed schedule that will include how long students will work
on Sway and when they can move around the classroom and collaborate with others.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This activity supports the UDL framework action and
expression by letting students demonstrate their knowledge of the historical figure in various
ways. Students can create a visual presentation and add audio to appeal to students with a
variety of learning styles. Students can add videos to the presentation to further enhance the
presentation.

Reflecting on enhanced learning:

This activity/lesson ideal will engage students because it requires students to explore with
new software features, collaborate with classmates, and choose the historical figure for their
project. I look forward to students getting to experience the new software and see how the
presentation can come to life.
