CPRC Guidelines For B.Tech & MCA Project
CPRC Guidelines For B.Tech & MCA Project
PROJECT
The guidelines for successful completion of B.Tech., M.Tech and M.C.A projects are to
facilitate in effective and uniform regulation of projects being carried out by undergraduate and
post graduate students in 3 rd, 4th,5th, 7th, 8th semesters. The concerned Department will designate
one faculty member as the Project Coordinator for a session. Project Coordinator will get all the
presentations conducted and keep all records.
In order to ensure participation of each student, the project size should preferably be 1 or 2 and
not more than 3 students. Formation of project groups should be done such that each group has
representation of students with varying academic merit from best to average. In view of this
following practice may be followed; Decide total number of feasible groups. Any left out
student(s) should be randomly attached to any group.
Faculty supervisors / Project Guides may be assigned to each project group either by the
choice of student groups or by faculty expertise.
3. Project Monitoring:
The B. Tech., M.Tech and M.C.A Projects activity being spread over one semester i.e. 3rd,
4th, 5th, 7th, 8th semester needs regular monitoring. Following schedule may be followed to
ensure continuous monitoring of the project progress.
First presentation related to identification of the work / project to be carried out must be
completed within 15-20 days of project group formation. For this brief power point presentation
of tentative topic, proposed work and methodology to be adopted for carrying out the project
may be made in the department in the presence of faculty members involved. The faculty
members will approve the topics and give suggestions, if any in the interest of project
proposals.
Second presentation for reviewing the progress may be held after about one month from the date
of First presentation. In the second presentation students should be asked to make power point
presentation of the progress made till date which will be reviewed by the faculty members.
c. Third Project Review Presentation
Third presentation for reviewing the progress may be held after about one month from the date
of Second presentation on the similar lines and evaluated accordingly.
After the completion of First, Second, Third Project Review Presentations, the project
coordinator will prepare the final project marks submission sheet
In case of non-approval, the suggestions for reformulating the project will be communicated to
you. The revised project synopsis along with a new Performa should be re-submitted along with a
copy of the earlier synopsis and non-approval project proposal Performa within a week.
Note: The marks (Internal lab assessment) can be varied according to the AKTU evaluation
scheme for respective programme.

2. Numbering of Equations:
Equations appearing in each Chapter should be numbered serially, the numbering
commencing fresh for each Chapter or Appendix. For example, an equation
appearing in Chapter 2, if it happens to be the eighth equation in that Chapter 2
should be numbered (2.8). While referring this equation in the body of the thesis it
should be referred to as Equation (2.8).
3. List of References:
Any work of other researchers, if used either directly or indirectly, the origin of the
material thus referred to at appropriate places in the report should be indicated. The
citation may assume any of the standard form (preferably ASCE, ASCE, IEEE, or
other international Journal Publishers such as Elsevier, Kluwer, Pergamon etc.). For
more details the students may contact their respective guides.
For example: Rice, I.G., 1982, “The reheat Gas Turbine With Stream Blade
Cooling-A Means of Increasing Reheat Pressure, Output, and Combined Cycle
Efficiency.” ASME Journal of Engineering for Power, Vol 104, pp. 9-22
5. Page Numbering:
All pages numbers should be typed at the center of page bottom. The preliminary
pages of the thesis (such as Title page, Acknowledgement, Table of Contents, List of
tables and figures, Notations, Abbreviations etc.) should be numbered in lower case
Roman numerals.
7. Binding Specifications
Project Report submitted (2 copies) should be bound in Black Color for B.Tech &
Red (Maroon) Color for MCA (Matt finish) hard binding. The side/face of
thickness of thesis should have the surname of the students, and month of submission
at top and bottom edge respectively.
The Quality of the project is measured in terms of the consideration to factors including
Processes related to project identification, allotment, continuous monitoring, evaluation
including demonstration of working prototypes and enhancing the relevance of projects. A
senior faculty member is assigned the responsibility as project coordinator, who handles all
the activities related to the student project work such as planning, scheduling and execution.
1. Project proposal selection process - Following flowchart shown in figure.1 shows the
detail of selection process for project. Students submit three project proposals which are
verified by the faculty members. The students are required to present their topics during
selection process and finalized topics are allotted to each group of max 3 students. Faculty
members are assigned as project guides for each of the group.
During project selection and allocation process, the faculty members encourages the students
to carry out sponsored projects also. The faculty members also encourages and provide
guidelines to students to participate in project exhibitions and to publish their project work in
reputed journals / conferences / technical paper presentation or project competitions.
Project exhibition is also organized in the institute to provide common platform to exhibit
innovations in their work. Following table elaborates the process, parameters and related
POs.

Figure.2: Flow of project related work
As per the guidelines for mini & major project in the syllabus, students group has to
complete project in time.
Students should attempt solution to the problem by experimental/simulation methods.
The solution to be validated with proper justification and report to be compiled in standard
format.
Every week on project day, project group members meet their respective guide and explain
their project progress for that week and till date. They maintain log book for weekly
progress that is verified by the guide.
Each project is evaluated with internal marks and is graded according to their project
quality and work done regularly
1. Projects Rubrics:
Presentations rubrics are created for monitoring and evaluation purpose.
Report Writing & Project Implementation rubrics are created for evaluation of
Quality of completed projects/ working prototypes with quality of the final report
based on the given report format.
4. Evaluation of a log book: Students maintain a project log book with project plan, weekly
work done and attendance to mark the punctuality of students. Project progress report is
filled in by students and evaluated by respective guides in the log book.
Note:
Final Report Quality and Content (20%): This is an evaluation of the quality of the final report based on the
report format, the clarity of communication and the analytical content. Effort is taken to write in a
grammatically correct and concise language.
Paper Publication: The research paper based on the project is mandatory for publication in reputed journal
like UGC, Scopus etc.(Format based on IEEE standard). Annexure I
7. Process to assess individual and team performance:
The department wills schedules three Project Progress Presentations where each group has to
present their project in depth. Following table shows Process to assess individual and team
performance.

The project progress presentation is given by all the project team members according to the
schedule. Soft skills, presentation skills, contents and executable are verified by the Faculty
panel at the time of presentation.
Each student in a project group is assessed for their skill sets to deliver the contents,
conceptual understanding of different stages of project work completed.
Each individual and team performance is purely based on project seminar presentation and
the viva voce examination and progress of work assessed by respective project guide.
Final project demo for the working prototype and the report are evaluated by a panel of
their respective guide and external examiner at the time of final viva.
A project grading sheet is prepared covering various aspects as presentation skills,
contents, time and group management, soft skills etc. as per project rubrics defined.
The quality of projects is also assessed based on its use and applicability towards societal
development.
External examiners submit feedback for each of project evaluated which helps for further
improvement in quality of project work.
Students present papers in national/international conferences, journals on their project
work.
Student participate in various project competition & gets awards / recognition based on all
above parameters completed project quality is evaluated.
