● Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur has announced that India will be
the official Country of Honour at the upcoming Marche’ Du Film, organized alongside the 75th edition
of the Cannes Film Festival, in France.
● The Country of Honour Status thereby ensured India’s presence as Focus Country at the Opening Night
of Marche Du Films being organized at the Majestic Beach with a spotlight on India, its cinema, its
culture & heritage.
2. NCRTC TO RECEIVE INDIA'S FIRST REGIONAL RAPID TRANSIT SYSTEM TRAIN SET AT
SALVI
● At Alstom's Savli project in Gujarat, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC)
will receive India's first semi-high-speed train set for Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). Manoj
Joshi, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, will be present at the occasion.
● The RRTS train sets are produced under the Make in India initiative and can reach a top speed of 180
kilometres per hour. The train will be transported to Duhai Depot in Uttar Pradesh, where it will be
repaired and operated.
● Cushioned seating, laptop-mobile charging, luggage racks, and a dynamic route map are among the
modern commuter-centric features of the completely air-conditioned train.
● The NCRTC is in charge of putting India's first RRTS corridor between Delhi and Meerut into
action. The 82-kilometre-long route is now under construction.

● With the launch of an UN-Energy Plan of Action Towards 2025, the UN took a major step
toward catalyzing the large-scale action and support needed for the transition to clean, affordable
energy for all and net-zero emissions against the backdrop of a global energy crisis and worsening
climate emergency.
● Around 30 important organisations, including UN-Energy, launched the 'Plan of Action.'
● According to the UN, an Energy Compact Action Network has been established to connect nations
seeking support for their clean energy ambitions with governments and corporations that have pledged more
than $600 billion to support these commitments.

6. CHINA WITHDRAWS AS 2023 FOOTBALL ASIAN CUP HOST DUE TO PANDEMIC
● The 24-nation tournament was to be played in 10 cities in mostly newly built stadiums in June and
July of next year.
● China’s withdrawal on Saturday could let Qatar or Saudi Arabia step up as hosts while both are
bidding in a contest to host the 2027 edition. India and Iran are also candidates for the 2027 edition
with a decision expected early next year

7. DELHI GOVT TO SPEND RS. 140 CRORE FOR BOOSTING GREENERY, FORESTS IN THE
CITY:
● Delhi`s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on May12,2022 said the state government approved a
budget of Rs. 140.74 crore during the Expenditure Finance Committee`s (EFC) meeting to plant 1
million saplings and restore the Capital`s degraded forest areas.` The Kejriwal -led Delhi government is
determined to provide clean air to the residents of Delhi and continuously working on increasing the
green cover of Delhi.
8.NEW ZEALAND SEA LEVEL RISING MORE QUICKLY THAN FORECAST:DATA
● According to research published on May 02,2022 , putting the country`s two largest cities at risk
decades earlier than expected Government-backed data amassed from around the country`s coastline
found some areas are already sinking three to four mililmetres per year, speeding up a long expected
threat.
● Auckland, which with 1.7 million residents is especially vulnerable.
● Prime Minister Jacinda Arden has informed that adaptation planning is underway, including relocation
of infrastructures away from vulnerable coastlines.
9. INQUIRY INTO CLIMATE CRISIS IMPACT ON UK DEFENCE LAUNCHED
● The government has announced an inquiry looking at how the climate crisis will affect UK defence and
Ministry of Defence (MoD) contributions to carbon emissions.
● The Defence Committee will be investigating for the first time, what needs to be done to ensure
international climate targets are met and impacts of the climate crisis on future conflicts.
● It will also be looking into whether the UK Armed Forces are prepared for an increase in requests for aid
in the wake of extreme weather events and flooding and what the MoD can do to help the UK achieve
and net zero by 2050.

10. MANIK SAHA APPOINTED NEW CHIEF MINISTER OF TRIPURA
● Biplab Kumar Deb resigned as the Chief Minister of Tripura on 14 May 2022. Deb had taken oath as the
first Chief Minister of Bharatiya Janata Party in Tripura in 2018.
● Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Manik Saha will replace him for the post. Dr. Saha, a Professor of Dental
Surgery, joined the BJP in 2016 from the Congress.
● He was appointed state BJP president in 2018.

12. NEW YORK RAISES COVID ALERT FROM ‘MEDIUM’ TO ‘HIGH’ AS INFECTIONS RISE
● As infections continue to soar, New York City raised its COVID-19 alert level from "medium" to "high".
In early May, the city had raised its COVID-19 alert level to "medium" from "low".
● The rating means there is a high COVID-19 community spread and pressure on the health care system in
the city is substantial.
● The guidance requires New Yorkers to wear a face mask in all public indoor settings and crowded
outdoor settings and consider avoiding higher-risk activities.

● Vice President M.Venkaiah Naidu has released the book “Modi@20:Dreams Meet Delivery” in New
Delhi.

approach and the transformational leadership style that Narendra bhai Modi has come to be so closely
identified with.
14. RASHEED KIDWAI AUTHORED A BOOK TITLED ‘LEADERS, POLITICIANS, CITIZENS’
● “Leaders, Politicians, Citizens: Fifty Figures Who Influenced India’s Politics” authored by
author-journalist Rasheed Kidwai compiles stories of 50 personalities who influenced India’s political
landscape.
● The 50 personalities featured in the book include Teji Bachchan, Phoolan Devi,Indira Gandhi, Rajiv
Gandhi, Jayalalithaa, APJ Abdul Kalam and Karunanidhi among others.
