Traffic Problem

Introduction

Traffic jam is the situation when vehicles are stopped completely for some time period on the roads. Also, vehicles
have to wait for a long time to move out of the jam. Sometimes it becomes like congestion in traffic. This happens
in transport network due to the increasing vehicles and overuse of roads. Often it is due to slow speed, longer trip
time and increased queues of vehicles. Therefore, traffic jam is becoming a major issue mostly in all cities.

Traffic Jam has a tremendous impact on the life of people. It is one of the most serious problems in big cities that
people have to deal in daily life. Since most of the people have to deal with it on a daily basis they may get
psychologically affected. It also negatively affects work, education and personal life of people and finally to the
progress of the country.

Importance -

Why Traffic Management Required?

1. Alerts Locals

A good traffic management plan will effectively warn drivers and pedestrians before they enter a construction
zone. Since locals who pass through the area on a daily basis will not be used to having their route disrupted,
alerting local and non-local drivers and pedestrians is an essential part of ensuring that everyone pays closer
attention to their surroundings.

2. Reduces the Speed of Vehicles

Drivers will need to be informed of when they need to slow down, when lanes will merge, and when the road will
get narrower. While it is obviously not safe to speed through a construction zone, a good traffic management plan
will provide drivers with ample warning about slowing down before entering the work area.

3. Allows Work to be Completed Faster

Creating a safe onsite work environment allows construction workers to focus on what they are doing, rather than
worrying about potential car accidents. In turn, this will allow the crew to work quickly, wrapping up the project
much faster than would be possible if they were busy worrying about traffic and pedestrians in the area.

4. Provides Worker Safety

Since employers have an obligation to ensure worker safety, putting an effective traffic control plan into place can
help ensure that you are maintaining compliance with worker health and safety regulations during your
construction project.

5. Minimizes Traffic Delays

A proper traffic control plan will help prevent motorists from being stuck in a traffic jam for hours on end. While all
road work construction projects cause some disruptions to the normal traffic flow, the plan will help keep things
moving smoothly, preventing long delays.

Objectives

When we have a plan with more specific

land uses, facility locations, and likely long range traffic and pedestrian access points, we will generate a traffic

review or study to insure the proper vehicular traffic flow and proper parking requirements are planned for the
future. Considerations should generally include smooth and safe flow of traffic for ingress and egress to the
facilities given the existing Right of Way infrastructure leading to the property. The plan should also provide the

least impact upon surrounding residents in the area of the facilities while providing a safe, direct, vehicular access
to new facilities.

1. improving safety on the road network

2. optimising traffic flow on arterial and freeway networks.
3. reducing congestion within and between cities.
4. co-ordinating agency traffic/transit operations.
5. managing incidents, reducing delays and adverse effects of incidents and congestion, weather, roadwork,
special events, emergencies and disaster situations.
6. effectively managing maintenance and construction work to minimise the impact on safety and
congestion.
7. informing travellers with timely and accurate information.
8. improving the interfaces between modes of transport for passengers and freight.
9. eliminating bottlenecks due to inadequate road geometry.
10. providing reliable and convenient public transport services.

Project Work Methodology

1. People should use public transport as much as possible.

2. The government must increase the facilities of public transport as per the need of the population.
3. Everyone should avoid the unnecessary collection of vehicles.
4. People should use carpool and vehicle sharing to decrease the vehicles on the road.
5. Conditions of the road in India is not good. Authorities must improve this situation.
6. Vehicle registration and motor driving license policy must be strictly implemented.
7. People must be aware of traffic rules and also be motivated to follow strictly.
8. Mixed traffic on the roads is also a big reason for it. So, it must be banned.

Observations

With the increasing population and the improvement of financial possibilities, everyone can now buy a car, albeit
at low prices. The number of vehicles going to traffic is increasing every day and the existing roads are not enough
and the traffic problem is growing.

People should be informed especially about traffic and be warned about the use of vehicles. Of course, many
studies and projects are done on this subject. Renovated roads, new roads, and many more investments are made
for the improvement of traffic.

However, no matter how long the road is made, it is necessary to direct the people towards using public
transportation. Today, these warnings are made very often. The biggest reason for the traffic, especially in the
morning commute hours and in the evening, is the widespread use of private vehicles.

Instead of using our private vehicles, we can go faster to the area we want to reach by using public transportation.
Now you will say how do we go faster using public transportation? The answer is, of course, simple. As the
number of vehicles in traffic decreases, traffic will not occur and public transportation vehicles will be able to take
you to your destination more quickly.

Analysis Of Data

Traffic congestion refers to traffic flow detained phenomenon caused by the contradiction between traffic
requirement and traffic capacity. Generally, traffic congestion would occur if the traffic capacity supplied by traffic
facilities is close to or less than the current traffic demand. In some specific time, the regular bottlenecks will be
formed if the traffic demand keeps being beyond the transportation capacity. Such case is called regular traffic
congestion. Besides, if the actual capacity declines because of temporary event or accident, occasional traffic
congestion is generated.

For a jammed unit in the road network, if the traffic demands remain high level and even continue to increase, the
actual traffic capacity to collect the upstream traffic flow will become more and more limited. It leads to slow
traffic speed and quickly rising traffic density of the upstream unit. That is how the primary traffic congestion can
spread to upstream unit. In addition, traffic flow is usually controlled by traffic signal control system.
Consequently, traffic flow in jammed unit with small headway will spread to the downstream unit during the
green time. Traffic demand and of downstream unit will rise rapidly. With the increasing interference between the
vehicles with one another, the traffic speed will be dropped and it may also lead to the possible congestion. These
factors easily make the traffic flow unstable and the capacity to drop. It is why the downstream units may be
jammed. Therefore, the original congestion can spread to the whole road grid quickly. If there are no effective
corresponding measures to relieve its spatial diffusion, the whole or regional traffic congestion will occur.

Results And Conclusions

Thus, traffic problem is a serious issue in every big city that causes several problems for common people. It
consumes so much of time and energy unnecessarily and hence the loss of the nation. Therefore, serious
measures have to be taken by the authorities to control traffic and promote the use of public transport.
Development of public transport network at economical rates is essential. Implementation of traffic safety rules by
traffic police is a must. People should drive more sensibly and responsibly. Hence, we all can work in this way to
solve the big threat of the current time.
