10. A man in a boat rowing away from a lighthouse 100 m high takes 2 minutes to change the angle 3
of elevation of the top of the lighthouse from 60° to 30°. Find the speed of the boat in meters per
minute.
Or
A boy standing on a horizontal plane finds a bird flying at a distance of 100 m from him at an
elevation of 30°. A girl standing on the roof of a 20-m-high building, finds the angle of elevation
of the same bird to be 45°. The boy and the girl are on the opposite sides of the bird. Find the

distance of the bird from the girl. [Given: √2 = 1.414]

SECTION C
11. Deepa runs an industry in a shed which is in the shape of a cuboid surmounted by a half-

cylinder. The base of the shed is of dimensions 7 m× 15 m and the height of the cuboidal

portion is 8 m. 4

(i) Find the volume of air that the shed can hold.

3
(ii) Suppose the machinery in the shed occupies a total space of 300 m3 and there are 20

workers, each of whom occupy about 0.08 m3 space on an average. Then, how much

air is in the shed?

(iii) Find the internal surface area of the shed, excluding the floor.

12. In the given figure, two tangents TP and TQ are drawn to a circle with centre O from an external 4

point T. Prove that ∠PTQ = 2 ∠OPQ.

Or
In the given figure, the radii of two concentric circles are 13 cm and 8 cm. AB is a diameter of
the bigger circle and BD is a tangent to the smaller circle touching it at D. Find the length of AD.

13. A satellite flying at a height h is watching the top of the two tallest mountains in Uttarakhand and
Karnataka, they are being Nanda Devi (height 7,816 m) and Malkangiri (height 1,930 m). The
angles of depression from the satellite, to the top of Nanda Devi and Malkangiri are 30° and 60°

4
respectively. If the distance between the peaks of two mountains is 1937 km, and the satellite is
vertically above the mid-point of the distance between the two mountains

(i) Find the distance of the satellite from the ground 2

(ii) What is the angle of elevation if a man is standing at a distance of 7816 m away from
Nanda Devi? 2

14. Case Study-2

A road roller (sometimes called a roller-compactor, or just roller) is a compactor-type
engineering vehicle used to compact soil, gravel, concrete, or asphalt in the construction of roads
and foundations. Similar rollers are used also at landfills or in agriculture. Road rollers are
frequently referred to as steamrollers, regardless of their method of propulsion.

5
RCB Machine Pvt Ltd started making road roller 10 year ago. Company increased its production
uniformly by fixed number every year. The company produces 800 rollers in the 6th year and
1130 roller in the 9th year. On the basis of the above information, answer any four of the
