Documentary Review: Draft 1
The journey begins with breathtaking aerial shots of Antarctica's vast ice sheets
and towering glaciers, painting an awe-inspiring portrait of the continent's surreal
and otherworldly beauty. As the camera glides over the frozen landscape, a team of
dedicated scientists and researchers come into focus, each with a unique mission to
unravel the continent's secrets and preserve its delicate ecosystem.

The documentary doesn't shy away from showcasing the immense challenges faced
by the researchers in this extreme environment. The Antarctic climate is harsh,
with temperatures plummeting to bone-chilling levels, accompanied by blizzards
that test even the most resilient souls. Yet, these challenges only strengthen the
resolve of the scientists, who form a close-knit community driven by a shared
passion for exploration and a desire to safeguard Earth's most vulnerable
ecosystems.
As "The Last Frontier" delves deeper, it also pays homage to the storied history of
human expeditions to Antarctica. The documentary shares riveting accounts of
legendary explorers like Sir Ernest Shackleton and Roald Amundsen, who braved
the elements and forged paths into the unknown. These historical narratives reveal
the remarkable feats of these pioneers and the indomitable spirit that fueled their
quest for discovery.
Beyond the exploration of Antarctica's past, the documentary also addresses its
future. With climate change posing an existential threat to the continent's delicate
ecosystems, researchers highlight the urgency of their work and the importance of
global cooperation in safeguarding this last true wilderness. As the world faces
unprecedented challenges due to climate change, Antarctica serves as a barometer
of our planet's health, and its preservation becomes an imperative shared by all
nations.

Student Reflection
I have always been curious about our Planet and its workings. What I didn't realise
was how essential a block of ice can be to its well-being. The amount of diversity
in one of the most inhospitable places on Earth shocked me. The documentary of
Antarctica showed me so much about Earth’s frozen poles and how it contributes
to the stability of the whole planet. It made me all the more invigorated to save the
planet and preserve the spectacular variety of living things we find in our beautiful
home.
Working on the project was not only about honing my English skills. I like to think
that my work affected me on a deeper level than that. Other than expanding my
knowledge on various subjects, the project’s final draft took multiple tries. I learnt
not to give up when I felt frustrated by my apparent lack of progress. It taught me
how to research effectively and find the information I was looking for, fast. I also
learnt the art of grasping information from a running video. Finally, practising my
draft for the final presentation allowed me to craft my speech and my ability to
effectively put across my point.
To sum it all up, the English ASL project has been a thorough learning experience,
enhancing my all round skills making for a truly interdisciplinary experience.
