Weather and Climate

The document discusses weather and climate. It defines weather as the current atmospheric conditions including temperature, moisture, wind and pressure. Climate is defined as the long-term pattern of weather in an area, usually tracked over 30 years. The atmosphere is composed primarily of nitrogen, oxygen, and variable amounts of water vapor. Weather forecasts are made by collecting data from satellites, weather stations, and past records then analyzing this information which is distributed through various media.

WHAT IS WEATHER?

WEATHER IS DEFINED AS THE STATE OF THE ATMOSPHERE AT ANY GIVEN TIME

AND PLACE , WITH RESPECT TO VARIABLES SUCH AS TEMPERATURE ,
MOISTURE , WIND SPEED AND DIRECTION , AND BIOMETRIC PRESSURE.

WEATHER IS WHAT YOU SEE OUTSIDE ON ANY PARTICULAR DAY. SO , FOR

EXAMPLE , IT MAY BE 75 DEGREES AND SUNNY OR IT COULD BE 20 DEGREES
WITH HEAVY SNOW . THAT’S THE WEATHER.
WHAT IS CLIMATE?

CLIMATE IS THE LONG TERM PATTERN OF WEATHER IN A PARTICULAR AREA

.WEATHER CAN CHANGE FROM HOUR TO HOUR , DAY TO DAY , MONTH TO
MONTH OR EVEN YEAR TO YEAR . A REGION’S WEATHER PATTERNS, USUALLY
TRACKED FOR AT Least 30 YEARS , ARE CONSIDERED ITS CLIMATE.
ATMOSPHERE AND IT LAYERS
WHAT IS THE ATMOSPHERE COMPOSED
OF?
THE ATMOSPHERE IS COMPOSED OF :
GASES
78% NITROGEN
21% OXYGEN
1% OTHER GASES SUCH AS CARBONDIOXIDE
VARIABLE QUANTITIES OF WATER VAPOUR
PARTICLES OF DUST
WEATHER FORECASTS

NAME THE ELEMENTS OF WEATHER.

TEMPERATURE
AIR PRESSURE
WIND STRENGTH
RAINFALL
WIND DIRECTION
HUMIDITY
SUNSHINE
CLOUDCOVER
HOW WEATHER FORECASTS ARE MADE?

WEATHER FORECASTS ARE MADE WHEN SOURCES OF INFORMATION ABOUT

THE WEATHER IS COLLECTED IN THE METEOROLOGICAL OFFICE THROUGH
SATELLITES , SHIPS, WEATHER STATIONS AND PAST RECORDS THEN THIS
INFORMATION IS ANALYSED AND IT IS MADE THROUGH NEWSPAPERS ,
TELEVISION, TELEPHONE AND INTERNET.

HOW IS AIR HEATED?

THE HEAT IS ABSORVED BY THE EARTH , HEATS THE AIR ABOVE THE EARTH’S
SURFACE . THE AIR IS HEATED BY
AIR IN CONTACT WITH THE GROUND IS HEATED BY CONDUCTION. THEN AIR
CONVECTION (RISING AIR) BECOMES A FACTOR . FINALLY THE GROUND
RADIATES IR” LIGHT” AT WAVELENGTHS WHERE THE LOWER ATMOSPHERE IS
NOT TRANSPARENT , SO THIS “ HEAT RADIATION “ CAN BE OBSORBED BY THE
ATMOSPHERE.
