Chapter 1: INTRODUCTION
An electronic device used for two-way radio communication via a cellular network of
base stations known as cell sites is a mobile phone, also known as a mobile cellular telephone
or cell. Mobile phones date back to the late 1940s , when they first appeared. The invention of
a radio for use in taxicabs, police cars, ambulances, and other vehicles that used two-way
radio to communicate with one another or a central office gave rise to the idea of the mobile
phone. The ability to use a mobile phone was already accessible in the 1960s, but there was a
restriction that the user had to remain inside the broadcast range.
We are now in the third generation mobile phone which we can use our phones to do
many things, for example: text messaging, internet and making calls any wherein the world.
Mobile phones have changed the way we live our lives and to many the prospect of a world
without voice calling, text messaging and mobile internet access is an unsetting one.
According to Shreiner (2012) cell phones present new opportunities and challenges
for students. Along with their books and school supplies, many students make their trip to
school with their mobile phone. The presence of cell phone provides a host of options and
challenges for today’s students.
The purpose of the study is to determine the impact of using mobile phone of
students' learning. This investigation will be carried out in line with this rationale.
II. Statement of the Problem
This study was conducted to determine the impact of using mobile phones on the
learning of grade 11 students at San Ricardo National High School, Poblacion, San Ricardo
Southern Leyte.
Specifically, it answered the following questions:
The main objective of this study is to determine impact of using mobile phones on
the learning of grade 11 students at San Ricardo National High School, Poblacion, San
Ricardo Southern Leyte.
Students
This will help the students be aware of the impact of mobile phone usage. This may
also help to improve their academic performance.
Parents
This will help parents manage and limit the mobile phone usage of their children
Teachers
This will give awareness to teachers about the impact of mobile phone usage to their
students.
School Administrator
The findings of this study will serve as basis of the School Administrator to impose
policies about the impact of mobile phone usage.
Future Researchers
This study will be useful to them as a reference material. It may also serve as a basis
of their own study.
This research report introduces the impact of using mobile phones on the academic
performance of grade 11 students at San Ricardo National High School. The study aims to
determine the frequency of mobile phone use, the amount of time spent using mobile phones
per hour, and the impact of mobile phone use on learning as perceived by the students. The
study is significant for students, teachers, school administrators, and future researchers. The
report concludes with a scope and limitation of the study.
