1 - 3 - 3 Introduction To Minitab

This document provides an introduction to Minitab, a software application used for six sigma tools. It can be used for basic statistics, statistical graphics, comparative tests, regression, design of experiments, measurement systems analysis, capability analysis, control charts, Pareto charts, and cause-and-effect diagrams. Minitab is used by many Fortune 500 companies and is available through Continental at no extra cost. The software resides locally on the user's computer but requires a connection to Continental's intranet to launch. Minitab licenses can also be borrowed for offline use for up to 8 days.

Minitab - Introduction
Minitab is a software application that provides Six Sigma tools:

ANOVA …))
•Regression (best fit lines & linear models)
Design of Experiments (DOE)
•Design
•Measurement System Analysis (Gage R&R, Linearity)

Minitab – Introduction

› Used by more "Six Sigma" companies than any other software

› Used by more than 450 companies in the Fortune 500
› Available in Continental at no extra cost
› Requires a connection to the Continental intranet for use …
 The software resides on your computer and functions locally
locally.
 When Minitab is launched, it sends a small message to a central server
which manages the number of concurrent licenses in use.
 Minitab can be "borrowed" for off-line use for up to 8 days using the
"Borrow Tool".

Minitab - Why / When to use it?

WHY?
● It makes complicated calculations and decisions easier

WHEN?
● Filtering & subsetting data
 Excel can be easier to use for manipulating data
 Excel provides better 'IF'
IF statement tools
● Calculating statistics - Excel has been shown to have calculation errors -
be careful!
● Creating statistical graphics
 You may prefer Excel's business statistics - bar charts, pie charts, …
● Using Data to make decisions

Minitab Borrow License

Continental installations of Minitab include a Minitab License Borrowing utility:

If it is not in the Minitab folder then try a search using the Start menu

Borrow

The maximum borrow

time is 8 days

When the borrow time ends the license is automatically returned and you will need to log
on to the Continental network to start launch Minitab or to re-borrow a Minitab license
