Increase fare rate among passengers, green-lighted by cab drivers due to never-ending oil price
hike in Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental, August 26, 2023.
In Oroquieta City, most of cab drivers are approved of the increase in fare rate despite the
eradication of social distancing as oil price hike neglect to decrease.
“Sakto rajod ng increase kay bisag wala nay 1 meter distance sa pasahero, pero ang palitunon
grabe ka mahal apiki kaayo namo ug di tas’an” said by one of the cab drivers, Edric Clemente.
[English translation: The increase is fair because even though there is no more 1 meter distance
from the passenger, but the cost of living is very expensive, it’s enough for all of us.]
The Department of Energy published Price Watch as of August 22, 2023, DOMESTIC OIL PRICES:
Effective 22 August 2023, the oil companies implemented an increase of P1.10/liter for
gasoline, P0.20/liter for diesel and P0.70/liter for kerosene. These price adjustments resulted in

However, many consumers are affected with this fare rate as school classes are about to start in
a few weeks. People who commute everyday, find this update alarming. Especially, that school
year 2023-2024 is about to start.
Meanwhile, Special Operations and Concerns—OCM are coordinating with the City Lokal of
Oroquieta regarding the official list of new taripa to be displayed for commuters to know.

"Sa voucher program kasi, dadalhin ng estudyante 'yung
voucher sa school at pwedeng maging source ng revenue ng
eskwelahan. Even though private schools are non-profit, we can
treat them as corporations and they should have access to
capital. Ang problema kasi naubos ang capital nila because of
the pandemic," Senator Win Gatchalian said in a statement on
