BA (Hons) Law with Management (F/T) - LM314
1. Context and Objectives
This undergraduate programme intends to expose prospective professionals to a panoply of legal and
managerial subjects which are geared towards emerging sectors in Mauritius. It broadens the scope of the
legal profession and develops wide competencies for future legal officers/legal managers. It encourages
degree holders with a good legal background to join other emerging sectors.
2. Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the programme, students should be able to:
understand and apply basic concepts of accounting;
develop managerial knowledge and skills in various areas and apply the management principles
taught;
develop legal skills so as to analyse case law, interpret statutes and apply legal principles; examine
legal issues and explore legal problems related to various specific legal fields.
3. Teaching and Learning Methods
This programme will be taught through a combination of face-to-face lectures, tutorials and online training
and seminars including discussion forums, web-based research through available open educational
resources and online assessments. The teaching methods focus on practical as well as theoretical means
with a view to develop the analytical and critical skills of students that are essential for the workplace.
With a wide range of modules available on the programme including work-based learning placements and a
variety of assessment methods such as simulated court proceedings, advocacy and presentations, students
will be able to discover the academic areas where their true interests lie.
A typical semester module will carry 6 LCCS credits which represent 180 notional learning hours broken
down as follows: 30 hours of teaching, 60 hours of self-study and 90 hours of other learning activities.
A typical yearly module will carry 12 LCCS credits which represent 360 notional hours broken down as
follows: 60 hours of teaching, 120 hours of self-study and 180 hours of other learning activities.
4. Entry Requirements
General
As per General Entry Requirements for admission to the University for Undergraduate Degrees.

7. Assessment and Deadlines
Each module will carry 100 marks and will be assessed as follows:
Continuous Assessment: 40% - 50%
Assessment will be based on a written examination of 2-hour (for a semester module) or 3-hour (for a
yearly module) duration as specified, carrying a range of 50% to 60% and continuous assessment carrying a
range of 40% to 50% of total marks except for module Research Methods. Continuous assessment will be
based on two (2) assignments and should include at least one class test.
Examinations: 50% - 60%
For a student to pass a module, an overall total of 40% for combined continuous assessment and written
examination components would be required without minimum thresholds within the individual continuous
assessment and written examination.
Written Examination and Continuous Assessment would each carry a weighting of 50% each for the
Module Research Methods (LAWS 2235Y(3)). Continuous Assessment would be based on writing
literature review, developing research methodology and research proposal/ report writing.
Dissertation is compulsory and it will carry 12 LCCS Credits.
