12th Physics Question Paper

1. The document contains 15 physics problems related to electric charges and fields. The problems involve calculating positions of charges for equilibrium, torque and potential energy of electric dipoles in uniform fields, electric field intensity at specific points, net electric flux through shapes, and more. 2. Common concepts assessed include Coulomb's law, superposition of electric fields, properties of electric dipoles, and relationships between electric field, flux, and enclosed charge. 3. The problems provide practice with applying quantitative relationships and concepts from electrostatics to set up and solve equations for unknown values.

1. Two identical point charges, q each, are kept 2m apart in air. A third point
charges Q of unknown magnitude and sign is placed on the line joining the charges
such that the system remains in equilibrium. Find the position and nature of Q.
2. A electric dipole of length 2 cm is placed with its axis making an angle of 60
with respect to uniform electric field of 105 N/C.

If it experience a torque of 8 Nm, calculate the magnitude of charge on the

dipole, and its potential energy.
3. Two point charges q1 = +1 C are placed 2 m apart in air. At what distance from
q1 along the line joining the two charges, will the net electric field be zero?
4. An electric field is uniform and acts along + x direction in the region of positive
x. It is also uniform with the same magnitude but acts in –x direction in the region
of negative x. The value of the field is E = 200N/C for x > 0 and E = -200N/C for x
< 0. A right circular cylinder of length 20cm and radius 5cm has its centre at the
origin and its axis along the x – axis so that one flat face is at x = +10 cm and the
other is at x = -10cm.
5. Two charges q and -3q are placed fixed on x – axis separated by distance ‘d’.
Where should a third charge 2q be placed such that it will not experience any force?
6. A hollow cylindrical box of length 1m and area of cross – section 25cm2 is
placed in a three dimensional coordinate system as shown in the figure. The electric
field in the region is given by ⃗ = 50 x ̂, where E is NC-1 and x is in metres. Find
(i) net flux through the cylinder. (ii) charge enclosed by the cylinder.
7. Two point charges of +5 x 10-19 C are separated by a distance of 2 m. Find the
point on the line joining them at which electric field intensity is zero.
8. Two charges of value 2 C and -50 C are placed 80cm apart. Calculate the
distance of the point from the smaller charge where the intensity is zero.
9. An electric dipole of length 2 cm is placed with its axis making an angle of 60

Nm, calculate the
(i) The magnitude of the charge on the dipole (ii) Its potential energy.
10. Two identical point charges, q each, are kept 2 m apart in the air. A third point
charge Q of unknown magnitude and sign is placed on the line joining the charges
such that the system remains in equilibrium. Find the position and nature of Q.

that it does not fall when released?

charge on the line joining the two charges, will the net electric field be zero?

a square of side d as shown in the figure. Objects X and Z are on the midpoints of
the sides of the square. The electrostatic force exerted by object Won object X is F.
