Question No. 46 to 50 are based on the given text. Read the text carefully and answer the questions:

A sequence whose terms increases or decreases by a fixed number, is called an Arithmetic Progression
(AP).
In other words, we can say that, a sequence is called an arithmetic progression if the difference of a term
and the previous term is always same i.e. an+1 - an = constant for all n.
This constant or same difference is called the common difference of an AP and it is denoted by d.
In an AP, we usually denote the first term by a, common difference by d and the nth term by an or Tn
defined as
Tn = an = a + (n - 1)d
Also, l = a + (n - 1)d, where l is the last term of the sequence.
The sum of n terms, Sn of this AP is given by Sn = [2a + (n - 1)d].
Also, if l be the last term, then the sum of n terms of this AP is Sn = (a + l).

46. Let Sn denote the sum of the first n terms of an AP, if S2n = 3Sn, then S3n : Sn is equal to
a. 10
b. 4
c. 6
d. 8
47. If 9 times the 9th term of an AP is equal to 13 times the 13th term, then the 22nd term of the AP is
a. 220
b. 22
c. 198
d. 0
48. If the sum of n terms of an AP is given by Sn = 3n + 2n2, then the common difference of the AP is
a. 4
b. 2
c. 3
d. 6
49. 11th term of an AP 11, 18, 25, ... is equal to
a. 71
b. 80
c. 81
d. 70
50. If nth term of an AP is given by an = 2n2 + 1, then its 10th term is equal to
a. 301
b. 400
c. 200
d. Given sequence is not an AP

Explanation: x = ,y=
2. (b) 8
Explanation: The mode of the data is 8 as it occurs the maximum times.
3. (d) 6
Explanation: n(A) = 3
n(B) = 6
n(AUB) = n(A) + n(B) - n(A B)
for minimum number of elements in
n(A B) = 3
So n(A B) = 6
4. (b) none of these
Explanation: none of these
5. (d) Domain = R, Range =
Explanation: We have, f(x) =
Clearly, f(x) is defined for all x R
Domain of f = R
Now,

6. (b) -1 r 1
Explanation: The value of the coefficient of Correlation is always between −1 and +1, depending on the
strength and direction of a linear relationship between the variables. The value of the correlation
coefficient lies between −1 and +1.
7. (d)
Explanation: If then means an implication statement .hence we rewrite as
8. (a) 2n
Explanation: 2n
The no. of subsets containing n elements is 2n.
9. (b) 8
Explanation: Mode of a series = Its mean + 12
Mean = mode - 12
Also we know that
Mode = 3 median - 2 Mean
Mode = 3 median - 2(mode - 12)
Mode = 3 median - 2 mode + 24

Mode + 2 mode - 3 median = 24

3 mode - 3 median = 24
3(mode - median) = 24
Mode - median = =8
10. (d) 64
Explanation: = 8x-1

=8

x 2-1.5 = 8
x0.5 = 8

=8
Squaring both sides we get
x = (8)2
x = 64
11. (c) Q3 + Q1 > 2 Median
Explanation: Q3 + Q1 > 2 Median
12. (d)
Explanation: and Associative law

so,
14. (b) 7
Explanation: Mean of 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 4 is m
=m
=m m=4
Mean of 3, 2, 2, 4, 3, 3, p is m - 1
=m-1

17 + p = 21 p = 21 - 17 = 4
Median of 3, 2, 2, 4, 3, 3, p is q
3, 2, 2, 4, 3, 3, 4 is q
Arranging in order, we get
4, 4, 3, 3, 3, 2, 2
Here n = 7
Median = th term = 4th term = 3
i.e, q = 3
p+q=4+3=7
15. (d) Mode
Explanation: The mode is the number that appears most frequently in a data set. A set of numbers
may have one mode, more than one mode, or no mode at all.

16. (a) 10
Explanation: 10
17. (b) { }
Explanation: Here value of x is not possible so A is a null set.
18. (b) a tautology
Explanation:

19. (a) 81
Explanation: Given the standard deviation of some temperature data in °C, =5
We know that
C= (F- 32)
F= + 32
Now we know
If standard deviation of x series is s, then standard deviation of kx series is ks,
So standard deviation of some temperature data in °C, = 5,
And hence the standard deviation of some temperature data in =5 =9
Similarly,
If standard deviation of x series is s, then standard deviation of k+x series is s,
So standard deviation of some temperature data in =9
And hence the standard deviation of some temperature data in + 32 will be
=9
Now for variance, we will square on both sides, we get
= 92
= 81
This is the required variance
20. (a) p q
Explanation: The statement before and is p. The statement after and is q and is replaced by
Section B
21. (b) 33
Explanation: Range of observations = Highest observation - Lowest observation|
= 95 - 62 = 33
22. (c) 65 cm2
Explanation: 65 cm2
23. (a) 48
Explanation: 48
24. (a) 0
Explanation: The algebraic sum of the deviations of a frequency distribution from its mean is zero.
Let x1, x2, x3, ...xn are observations and is the mean
( - x 1) + ( - x 2) + ( - x3) + ...( - xn)

i. 3 is prime, its true
ii. is irrational, it is true.
iii. Mathematics is interesting, we cannot say anything about it.
iv. 5 is an even integer, It is false.
34. (b)
Explanation: We have, f(x) = 3x - 1 and g(x) = 3 + x
f(x) = g(x)
3x2 - 1 = 3 + x
3x2 - x - 4 = 0
(3x - 4)(x + 1) = 0

R is Reflexive
Symmetric:
If (x, y) R |x - y| 1
and (y, x) R |y - x| 1 [Since |x - y| = |y - x|]

|x - z| 2
R is not transitive
39. (c) reflexive but not symmetric
Explanation: Relation R is reflexive relation over set A as every element of A is related to itself in R.
Relation R is not symmetric as (1, 2) is in R but (2, 1) is not in R.
Relation R is also transitive as for a, b, c in A if (a, b) is in R and (b, c) is in R, then (a, c) is also in R.
