5.0 FIELD INVESTIGATION
After the visual inspection of the site, the subsurface soil investigation was
drilled at the location shown on the enclosed site plan (Figure 1, Appendix I).
The boring was drilled by the use of trucks mounted Mobile B-53 drilling rigs
utilizing tricone bit & casing. Borehole number, location and depth was made
according to the project requirements to cover the site and satisfy the
sampling and field testing were conducted in accordance with the applicable
ASTM specifications.
The following table presents the correlation between field tests (SPT) and soil

The subsurface soil field information that have been provided from the sixteen
(16) boring, drilled to the depth of 15.0m, 25.0m. 30.0m and 40.0m below the
boreholes present levels revealed that the subsurface formation mainly consists
of two (02) subsoil formation that are extending from the existing borehole surface
to the total depth investigated. The estimated soil profile is composed of the
following:
1. Sand Layer: From the top, a layer of light brown, very loose to dense, Poorly
2. Elastic Silt: Below the top layers, a layer of a layer of light greenish/creamy,
hard, Elastic Silt was encountered down to the maximum depth of 40.0m.

NOTE # 1: If the concentration of NaCI gives a higher class rating that the concentration of SO3,
then the higher class shall be used and vice versa.
NOTE # 2: The cement contents given in the table relate to 20 mm nominal maximum size
aggregate. In order to maintain the content of the mortar fraction at similar values, the
minimum cement content given above should be increased by 50 kg/m3 for 10mm
nominal size aggregate and may be decreased by 30 kg/m3 for 40 mm nominal size
aggregate.
NOTE # 3: Different aggregate require different water contents to produce concrete of the same
workability and therefore a range of free water/cement ratio is applicable to each
cement content. In order to achieve satisfactory workability at specified maximum
free water/cement ratio, it may be necessary to increase the cement content above
the minimum specified or use water-reducing admixtures.
NOTE # 4: Pulverized fly ash (pfa) should comply with BS 3892 or the appropriate part of ASTM
C 595. Ground granulated blastfurnace slag should comply with BS 0002, or the
appropriate part of ASTM C 595.
NOTE # 5: Minimum depth of cover apply to concrete with 20 mm maximum size aggregate. In
no case should the cover be less than the maximum size of aggregate size. Minimum
cover includes cover to links, etc.
NOTE # 7: Concrete exposed to wetting & drying by irrigation water should be rated Class 2 as a
minimum requirement.

compacted in accordance with the specifications requirements.
AASHTO SPECIFICATIONS. are the latest of the Standard Specifications of the American
Association of State Highway and Transport Officials.
ASTM SPECIFICATIONS .. are those of the American Society for Testing and Materials.
DEGREE OF COMPACTION... is the ratio, expressed as a percentage, of the dry density of the fill
material as compacted in the field to the maximum dry density of the same material determined by
AASHTO Test Designation T180 or by ASTM D-1557-90 test, "Moisture-Density Relation of Soils using
a 10 lb. Hammer and an 18-in. Drop", or AASHTO Test Designation T-90 or ASTM D-698-90 using a
5.5 lb. hammer and 12 in drop.
The Soil Engineer shall be the contractor or Owner's representative to observe the grading operations
both during preparation of the site and the construction of any engineered fill. He shall make a
sufficient number of field observation and tests to enable him to form an opinion regarding the
adequacy of the site preparation, the acceptability of the fill materials, and the extent to which the
degree of compaction of the fill, as placed, meets the specification requirements. Any fill that does not
meet the specification requirements shall be removed and/or recompacted until the requirements are
satisfied.
Soil Investigation
A Soil Investigation has been performed for this site. A report of this investigation is available to the
Contractor upon request. The Contractor shall familiarize with the soil conditions at the site whether
covered in the report or not, and shall thoroughly understand all recommendations associated with
grading.
Soil & Foundation Co. Ltd., C.R. 2051033757 - C.C. No. 78673
B. SITE PREPARATION
Excavation
All excavation shall be carefully made true to the grades and elevations shown on the plans. The
excavated surfaces shall be kept properly graded to provide good drainage during construction and
prevent pending of water.
All vegetation, organic top-soil and debris shall be stripped from the site. The stripping depth shall be
determined by the supervising Soil Engineer in the field. The stripped material shall either be removed
from the site or stockpiled for re-use later, but none of the stripped material contaminated by organic
matter may be used for engineered fill.
Any soft areas exposed after stripping shall be over-excavated. all visual or unseen channels or
ditches shall be over-excavated to the depth of firm material and to the width of the compacting
equipment.
After being stripped and over-excavated, the upper 15cm below the exposed surfaces shall be
compacted to a moisture content that will permit proper compaction as hereinafter specified for
fill. Before placing the fill, the contractor shall obtain the soil Engineer's approval of the site
preparation in the area to be filled. The requirements of this section may be omitted only when
approved in writing by the soil Engineer.
All fill material must be approved by the soil Engineer. The material shall be a soil or soil rock
mixture which is free from organic matter or other deleterious substances. The fill material shall
not contain rock or lumps over 15 cm in greatest dimension, and not more than 15 percent larger
than 6.5 cm. In addition, the maximum size of rock or lumps shall be less than 10 cm in back fill
materials. Excavated on-site materials, if free of organic or other deleterious substances, are
suitable for use in fills, except where select material is specified.
In addition to the requirement of C.1 above, select material must conform to the following:
Soil & Foundation Co. Ltd., C.R. 2051033757 - C.C. No. 78673
No. 40 sieve 30 max 50 max
No. 200 sieve 15 max 25 max
Maximum Plasticity Index (PI) 6 6
All fill material shall be compacted as specified below, or by other methods, if approved by the
Soil engineer, so as to produce a minimum degree of compaction of 95 percent, except in clean
sands and gravels. These materials shall be compacted to a minimum degree of compaction of 95
percent. Clean sands and gravel fill shall be defined as cohesionless granular material meeting
the following requirements; in addition to the requirements of C.1 above:
Fill material shall be spread in uniform lifts not exceeding thickness that achieves the desired
degree of compaction (generally 20 cm uncompacted thickness is acceptable). Before
compaction begins, the fill shall be brought to the required moisture content by either: (1)
aerating the material if it is too wet; (2) spraying the material with water if it is too dry. Each lift
shall be thoroughly mixed before compaction to ensure a uniform distribution of water content.
Appropriate water content will be determined by ASTM D 1557-90 and/or ASTM D 690-90
After grading is completed and the Soil Engineer has finished his inspect of the work, no further
excavation shall be done except with the approval of and under the observation of the soil
engineer.
It shall be the responsibility of the Grading contractor to prevent erosion of freshly graded areas
during construction and until such time as permanent drainage and erosion control measures have
been installed.
