BRIEF INTRODUCTION
People in the 21st century are living in the fast-paced world. A world wherein constant
communication with others is viewed as a need and gathering information is vital. Alas, with
the technological advancement that we have today, those two factors do not pose as a
dilemma.

In this modern age, having the necessary computer skills will open doors of opportunity
for you since almost all jobs require computer literacy notwithstanding the fact that a number
of transactions are done online. This module will provide you basic knowledge on how to
navigate websites to equip you with necessary skills that is in demand today.

WEBSITE NAVIGATION

Before you start looking for any information using the internet, you must learn first what
a web browser is and familiarize yourself with the various parts of a website page and their
functions.

A web browser is a tool you use to access the internet like Chrome, Safari, Firefox,
and Internet Explorer. These web browsers enable you to access different web sites.

You will see in the given example on the next page that the web browser used is
Chrome. When you open any browser, you will see the address bar at the top of the window.
This is where you are going to type in any website you want to visit. After you have typed the
desired website, just press Enter or just simply click it. The web browser that you use will
consistently suggest a website even before you finish typing it. You may always click on the
suggestion/s provided.

Let us say that the website that you are looking for is already displayed. This time, let
us learn the different parts of a website.

1. Header

The header is the top part of a website that contains the logo and usually (but not
always) the site’s navigation menu. The header is a zone at the top of the page that stays
constant and visible as you click around a site.

Image 5

2. Navigation Bar

The navigation bar contains the links at the top of the page to help you find what you
are looking for. This may be found in the header or just below it.

Image 6
If you are using a cellular phone, the navigation may appear like an icon with three
stacked lines which is also known as “hamburger” because of its resemblance to the side
view of a hamburger.

Image 7

3. Website Content

The website content is all the information in different forms like texts, images, videos,
and animations.

Image 8
4. Side Bar

The side bar is located either at the left or at the right of the website content. Some
website pages have side bars at both sides. It usually contains advertisements, links to other
content, calls to action, or a search box.

Image 9

5. Footer

Every page of a website has a footer that is found at the bottom. It functions like a
header. It gives or links you to contact information, privacy policy, terms of use, site map,
social media icons, disclaimer, and links to other important pages.

Image 10
6. Link (Hyperlink)

The link may be a text, image, or video that is clickable in any part of a website page.
If the link is a text, it may be in any color but it usually appears in blue and/or is underlined.
The link allows you to navigate between pages in the web or to another website.
