Q1. On what factors does our type of clothing depend?
Ans: - Type of clothing which we wear is influenced by climate, occupation, culture and daily
needs.
Q2. what are fibres and how many types of fibres are there?
Ans: - The thread-like materials used to make cloth or fabric are called fibre. There are two
types of fibre
Natural fibre: - cotton, jute, silk, wool
Synthetic fibre: - silk, nylon, acrylic
Q3. Name the states where jute plants are mainly grown in India?
Ans, west Bengal, Assam, Bihar
Q4. List the steps involved in the preparation of fabric.
Answer:
The steps involved in the preparation of fabrics are:

1. Obtaining fibre.
2. Preparation of yarn from fibres by spinning.
3. When two sets of yarn are involved, yarns are woven on looms to make fabric.
When a single yarn is used, the fabric is prepared by knitting.

Q5. What are the conditions required for growing cotton? Name the states in which cotton is
grown.

Ans; - warm climate and black soil. States where cotton is grown are: - Gujrat, Maharashtra,
northern Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nādu.

Q6. Differentiate between natural fibres and synthetic fibres.

Ans: - spinning: - Spinning is the process of converting fibres into yarn by twisting the fibres
using various machines. It is done in the way as the wicks are made from cotton wool at
homes. Fibres are drawn out and twisted. It can be done both by hands and by machines.
Manually, it is done with a hand spindle called takli or on a spinning wheel called charkha.

Knitting: - Knitting is usually done with a single yarn with the help of knitting needles to make
a piece of fabric

Weaving: - The process of arranging two sets of yam together to make a fabric is called
weaving.

Q8. what is loom? For what purpose is it used?

Ans: - A device which is used for making fabrics by weaving yarn or threads is called a loom.
The weaving of yarn to make fabrics is done by using looms.

Q9. While going to kitchen for cooking, which natural fibre do you think is best to wear?
Why?
Answer:
Cotton fibre is the best fibre to wear during cooking because in case of any accidental fire it
does not stick with the body.

Q10.Which type of dress material would you like to wear in summer?


Ans:
In summer we would like to wear dress materials made up of cotton and having light colour.

Q11. Name the four types of fabrics which are still used in un-stitched form in our country.
Ans: -Dhoti, saree, lungi and turban.
