1.1 Motivation
Name some traits you believe all Filipinos shared by completing the statement below.

Explain why you think that is a trait common to Filipinos.

Before we read the text, let us first sing a song entitled in a tune of “Awit sa Tagayan in the tune of
Leron-Leron Sinta (Pag-aalok ng tagay)”,traditional"tagayan" or wine-drinking in festive occasions.

Background
The war had just ended in the Philippines and life was back to normal. The story is about an
American soldier bragging his ability to drink all kinds of liquor to a Filipino farmer, but in the end he
got drunk because of the lambanog that the farmer offered.

3. lambanog-traditional distilled palm liquor made from coconut or nipa palm sap.
