GEM Computers has topped the Wall Street headlines with its organization-wide restructuring exercise.GEM
Computers,a computer giant, sold its low margin competitive desktop division. In recent years,GEM Computers has
spent billions of dollars investing in the desktop division, where low cost manufacturers have managed to stay at the
top of the competition. However,GEM' s desktop products have virtually stopped evolving and ceased making new
products despite its heavy spending on R& D.This has caused the cash-stricken company to offer its loss-making
division to Electronica. As one of the leading computer companies,Electronica paid $5 billion to buy the division.
The market deems this as more favorable to GEM,as it received more than what it deserves for selling the
division. It is expected to pay off most of its multimillion dollar loans and avoid filing for bankruptcy for some
time .Economists comment that GEM will stmt turning a profit as long as it keeps with its core products of mini
computers and mainframe systems.

Dear Mr.Santos,
First of all,i' d like to apologize for the mix-up with your company' s order yesterday. As I understand it,you
received l O ink cartridges fewer than you requested and an additional box of printer paper,as well.
At GMO,we pride ourselves on our attention to detail,so I immediately began an investigation. It turns out that a
member of the administration team caused the problem. He confused your order with that of another firm with a
similar name,Hillman Finance. This sort of mistake is unacceptable, and I have given that employee an official
warning about his performance.I can assure you that all staff members will take the utmost care to ensure your order
is processed correctly in future.
The good news is that the correct shipment is now on its way.It should arrive sometime tomorrow
afternoon. Please make sure a company representative is on hand to sign the delivery invoice at that time .
I understand that our error has caused your firm significant distress, since you are now running low on stationery
supplies. As compensation,! am willing to offer a 30% rebate on this order,as well as a $50 credit on your next order
with us.I hope that these terms are satisfactory.
Regards,

Dear Mr.Simon,
I am writing to you after discovering your entertaining and informative travel website,Around the World.I am
not ashamed to admit that I spent a solid two hours perusing your articles on foreign customs and amazing cultural
sites, even though I originally stumbled onto it while doing a search for study abroad programs.I feel you' ve done a
wonderful job creating content that appeals to a wide variety of people eager to discover new things about the
world. Congratulations!
I am a writer by profession, and I recently published my debut work, entitled Lost in France. The story deals with
an early travel experience I had in the country and how my memories of it changed when I returned later as an adult.I
noticed that your site features several book reviews, and I was wondering if you would consider posting your
impressions of my work.I am not looking for a guarantee of praise; your honest opinion is all I ask.
If this is a proposition that interests you,I would be happy to send you a copy at my own expense.I only ask that
you contact my publisher prior to posting a review so that they may anticipate the publicity.

Questions 196-200 refer to the following article, e-mail, and floor plan.
The grand opening of the Ocean Crest Mall in Marlow Bay is scheduled for next spring, and available spaces are
filling rapidly. Once the mall opens, business is expected to take off just as quickly. While the Ocean Crest Mall is
not the only such establishment in Marlow Bay, it will be the first to open directly onto the board walk. The mall will
include boutiques, specialty stores, and a variety of food vendors.
The mall management is hoping to attract business owners from outside Marlow Bay. According to rental
manager Barbara Lancer, a number of the businesses that have rented space are new to the area.
" This was by design,"she explained. " The Marlow Bay City Council offered the mall owners a tax incentive if
we are able to bring new businesses to Marlow Bay. We ' re still a little short of our goal to have 75% of our spaces
rented to nonlocal businesses. We are offering reduced rental prices on new leases for out-of-town businesses. "
Applications from business owners looking to lease retail and restaurant space will be accepted until the
December 15 deadline. Interested business owners are encouraged to contact Lancer by e-mail at
[email protected].
Date: October 9
I am a friend of Eric Rave, owner of The Shoe Hom, and he smrn:ested that I contact you about a rental space in
the Ocean Crest Mall. He told me about a great benefit that he received that is available to business owners like me. I
own Edge Fashion and sell contemporary women' s apparel. I have two retail locations in the nearby city of Hazelton,
and I am considering expanding to Marlow Bay. If possible, I would like to be near my friend's store, but I do not
want a space that is beside a restaurant or food service. A space on the boardwalk side that overlooks the beach would
be ideal.
Could you please send me a map of the mall showing any available spaces that might meet my needs? Also,
could you provide information about the size of each space and rental fees?
