Handwriting Biometrics

This document discusses handwriting biometrics. It begins by defining handwriting as a unique expression of one's identity through writing. Handwriting biometrics analyzes aspects of handwriting to identify or verify individuals, relying on unique characteristics similar to fingerprints. It works by sensing writing through touch surfaces or pens to analyze angle, pressure, and direction over time. Applications include forensics to prevent fraud and forgery. Advantages include uniqueness, convenience, and continuous verification, while challenges include variability and cultural differences. Future trends may include advanced machine learning, multi-modal biometrics, continuous authentication, and mobile integration.

01
Introduction
What is Handwriting ?

● Handwriting is the unique expression of

one's thoughts and identity through the
physical act of writing with a tool, such as a
pen or pencil.
● A person's writing is unique, meaning that
no two people have styles that match
exactly.
● Each writing system has its own rules for
handwriting.

Biometrics
What is Handwriting Biometrics?
● Handwriting biometrics, also known as handwriting
recognition or handwriting authentication, is a
technology that analyzes various aspects of a person's
handwriting to identify or verify their identity.
● It relies on the unique characteristics of an individual's
handwriting, which are often considered as biometric
traits, similar to fingerprints or iris patterns.
● This form of identification captures the behavioral
biometrics of a person. How you walk, speak, or even
type on a keyboard can be an indication of your identity
if these patterns are tracked.
● The dynamic signature verification technology confirms
the identity of the user by analyzing the shape, speed,
stroke, pen pressure and timing information during the
act of signing.
03
How Handwriting
Biometrics Works
A handwriting recognition system sensor includes a touch- sensitive
writing surface or a pen that contains sensor to detect angle,
pressure and direction.
● The software translates the writing into a graph and recognises
the small changes in a person's handwriting from day to day
over time.
● Signature verification is one the method used in forensics to
prevent risks of fraud, identity theft , forgery, cyber crimes etc.
● Verification is done through the sequential steps ,that are given

Advanced Machine Learning Algorithms
Future advancements in machine learning algorithms will enable handwriting biometrics
systems to achieve higher levels of accuracy and reliability.

Multi-Modal Biometric Fusion

The integration of multiple biometric modalities, such as handwriting biometrics, voice
recognition, facial recognition, and behavioural biometrics, will enable the development of
multi-modal authentication systems.

Continuous Authentication
Future handwriting biometrics systems will adopt continuous authentication approaches that
verify the user's identity throughout the duration of an interaction or session

Mobile Biometrics Integration

The proliferation of mobile devices and the increasing reliance on smartphones and tablets
for everyday tasks will drive the integration of handwriting biometrics into mobile
authentication solutions
