The BIG GREEN Lesson
The BIG GREEN Lesson is a transforma5ve ini5a5ve empowering students to drive
posi5ve change for a be>er world. Developed by the United Arab Emirates Ministry of
Educa5on, this programme focuses on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a
keen emphasis on tackling climate change, a cri5cal global issue. Schools that take part in
these lessons will be shown on our global par5cipa5on map.

The BIG GREEN Lesson is a series of six lessons available across four levels - Lower
Primary, Upper Primary, Middle School, and High School and can be delivered across any
subject during Term 1 as the UAE leads up to COP28. The content will be available in
Arabic, English, French, Spanish, and Chinese.

The BIG GREEN Lesson is part of the launch of the Environmental Sustainability Toolkit, LINK: h(p://bit.ly/biggreenlesson
the MoE has worked alongside partners such as Na5onal Geographic, York Press, the
World’s Largest Lesson and the Emirates Centre for Strategic Research and Studies to
develop the materials.

COP 28 Event – The BIG GREEN Lesson

At COP 28, our area of focus will be on the dual ideas of impact and legacy of the
sustainability pledges made by students as part of their engagement with the Big Green
Lesson during their classes at school ahead of COP28. Students will showcase their
pledges alongside sustainability ambassadors.

The BIG GREEN Lesson Guest Ambassador


Andrés Ruzo is a geothermal scienMst, conservaMonist, educator, and
communicator, working to connect people with nature. He is best
known for his work on Peru’s Boiling River of the Amazon, where in
2011 he became the first geoscienMst to receive approval to study this
sacred site. He is the Founder and Director of the Boiling River Project,
whose mission is to understand, protect, and advocate for the Boiling
River and geothermal sites across the globe. His team of over 50
collaborators brings together science, art, tradiMonal knowledge, and NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORER SINCE 2011
interdisciplinary educaMon. Andrés is a NatGeo Explorer and host, and a
TED MainStage Speaker and Author. He holds degrees in Geology and
Finance, and is currently finishing his PhD (focus: Geothermal Systems).
