Work Sheet Year 8 Chapter 09

1) The document is a mathematics worksheet on sequences and functions for class 08. It contains 7 questions testing students' abilities to write terms in sequences, identify term-to-term rules, complete function tables and write function equations. 2) Question 2 asks students to find the 3rd term of a sequence given the 6th term is 449 and the rule is to subtract 3 and multiply by 4. 3) Question 3 asks students to identify whether the 4th term of a sequence would be 370 or 470, given the first 3 terms are 100, 170, 270.

Year 08- Work Sheet (Mathematics)

Chapter # 09 (Sequences and Functions) Date: 29-01-24

Name: _______________________________________

Class: ___________________

1. Write the first three terms in each of these sequences. (3)

The first one has been started for you.
a) First term is 3 term to term rule is to multiply by 3 then subtract 1
First term = 3
Second term = 3 ×3−1=9−1=8
Third term = 8 ×3−1=❑−1= ˙ ˙

b) First term is 10 term-to-term rule is multiply by 2 then subtract 4.

c) First term is 7 term-to-term rule is add 8 then divide by 2.

2. The 6th term of a sequence is 449. (3)

The term to term rule is subtract 3 then multiply by 4.
What is the 3rd term of the sequence?
Show all your working.
3. Jacob and Jack were trying to complete the given sequence. Jacob says the (3)
Fourth term would be 470 and Jack says it would be 370. Who do you think is correct?

5. Each card shows one term from a different sequence. (3)

A. 10th term in the sequence, B. 7th term in the sequence,
nth term is 2n+12. nth term is 7n – 4.
Which card has the smaller value, A or B? Show your working.
