5.0 IMPLEMENTATION / METHODOLOGY PROCEDURES

5.1 Method of Installation of G.I Pipe

5.1.1 Outline of Works

The works shall apply to the excavation of soil, common base rock
excavation, gravel and crushed limestone base using heavy equipment such
as JCB excavator and basic hand tools and laying of G.I pipe.

5.1.2 Construction methodology

Establish the necessary line position for the excavation of ground trenches. In
establishing the lines and position, stakes and markers shall be installed.

After establishing the necessary lines and position based on the working
drawing layout, proceed with mobilization of required work force, tools and
equipments.

5.1.3 Installation – Preparation of Trench

After the pipeline route survey has been completed, the ground is dug up to
the recommended depth. Once the trench is ready, the pipes should be laid
as soon as possible after making sure that :-

a. The bed of the trench is reasonably flat to give adequate support to

pipe spacer and pipes over its overall length.

b. There are no protruding rocks or unwanted materials in the trench bed.

c. If necessary the trench bed can be filled by fine sub-soil in areas where
the soil is rock laden.

5.2 Installation of Corrugated HDPE Pipe

a. The method of works is quite similar to the installation of G.I. pipe as

described in item 5.1.1, 5.1.2 and 5.1.3 i.e. until the preparation of trench.

b. Upon completion of the trenching works activity, the engineer and client
representative is required to be notified for the site inspection and approval.

c. Upon obtaining the approval from the relevant parties, the next layer is to fill
with layer of 50mm sand before the laying of pipes can take place.

d. Then the pipe shall be laid accordingly. The spacing between ducts, all pipe
jointing using sleeve, etc. shall follow strictly as per drawing and specification
requirement.

e. Upon completion, the site inspection for approval is required by all parties
concern before back-filling.

5.3 Back-filling and Compaction of Sand

a. When the pipes have been laid and approval has been obtained, the back-
filling with sand between ducts and the top layer of 50mm is being carried out
accordingly.

b. The back-filling material shall be progressively compacted as the trench is

filled with sub-soil.

c. The finish layer of the working area shall be making good to its original
condition such as re-planting with grass, etc.

5.4 Cables Marker Sheet

When the process of back-filling and compaction of sand is completed, cables

marker sheet is laid on it as per specification.
