Password Generation
This article describes process to generate Uninstall Password for Data Loss Prevention
Agents (Windows Only).

About Uninstallation Password

The uninstallation password prevents unauthorized users from removing the DLP Agent from
an endpoint. If an unauthorized user tries to remove the agent without the password, the
agent cannot be removed.

When you create or assign the password during agent installation, it cannot be changed
unless the agent is removed and then reinstalled. When you want to remove an agent from
an endpoint, the uninstallation password parameter pop-up window requests the
uninstallation password. If you remove agents from a large number of endpoints using an
agent management system, the password must be included in the uninstallation command
line.

Creating Passwords with the Password Generation Tool

Use the uninstallation password generator tool to create a unique password key.

The name of the uninstallation password generator tool is UninstallPwdKeyGenerator.exe.

The uninstallation password prevents unauthorized users from removing the Symantec DLP
Agent. The UninstallPwdKeyGenerator tool works with the PGPSdk.dll file to create unique
passwords.
The tool and the file must be located in the same tools directory to function.

Step 1: Navigate to DLPDownloadHome >


Symantec_DLP_14.5_Agent_Win-IN > DLP > 14.5 >
Endpoint > Win > x64 > Tools folder.

Step 2: Copy UninstallPwdKeyGenerator tool and PGPSdk.dll file and paste it in


DLPInstallHome > SymantecDLP > Protect > Keystore

Step 3: Open Command Prompt with administrator privilege.


Navigate to DLPInstallHome > SymantecDLP > Protect >
Keystore directory.

Step 4: Run UninstallPwdKeyGenerator.exe with command –xp=<Password>

Step 5: Generated 45 digit key is the uninstall password to be entered while


generating agent installer package.
