Q1: A 0.50 kg baseball is confined between two rigid walls of a stadium that can be modeled
as a “box” of length 100 m. Calculate the minimum speed of the baseball. If the baseball is
moving with a speed of 150 m/s, what is the quantum number of the state in which the baseball
will be?

Q2: A beam of electrons is incident on a barrier 6.0 eV high and 0.20 nm wide. Find the energy
they should have if 1% of them are to get through the barrier.

Q3: A quantum mechanical harmonic oscillator of mass 4 kg is oscillating under influence of


force constant 1 N/m. Calculate its energy in level n = 3.
Q4: Write a note on surface to volume ratio. Mention its significance
Q5: What do you mean by ‘top down’ and ‘bottom up’ approach? Explain one technique
each which describes them.
