1. Chronological Resume.

2. Functional or skill based Resume.

3. Combination Resume.

4. Target Resume.
1. Chronological

It gives your work history in the sequence of occurrence, that is in chrome

logical order. Nowadays, reverse chronological order is in practice.

(it should be written in the sequential manners but in the reverse order)

(list the most recent experience first & then works backward through time.)

Preferred by employees

Most common resume type

ADVANTAGES OF CHORONOLOGICAL RESUME

It is easy to write.

It is best for those people who have a solid employment background with no lapses
in their work history.

It is also beneficial if most of your experience coincides with the job you are
interested in.
2. DISADVANTAGES OF CHRONOLOGICAL RESUME

It calls attention to the employment gaps.

Here, the skills can be difficult to spot unless they are listed in the most
recent jobs.

It should not be used when calling attention to your age could be a problem, or you
have changed jobs often, or you are entering the job market for the first time or
after a long absence.
2. Functional / Skill Based Resume

It mainly focuses on your skills & experience.

Often used by the people who are changing career or who have gaps in their
employment history.
ADVANTAGES OF FUNCTIONAL / SKILL BASED RESUME
It de-emphasizes a spotty work history.

It allows to highlight specific strengths and transferable skills that might not be
obvious when outlined in a purely chronological order.

It is preferable if you have lapses in employment. The gaps could occur for any
number of reasons such as raising a family, illness, or job loss.

It is also beneficial for new graduate who have limited employment experience or
people who are in the middle of a career change.

Those who have had diverse occupations with no focused career path will also find
this resume type helpful.
DISADVANTAGES OF FUNCTIONAL RESUME

No details work history. content may appear to lack depth.

It is disliked by many employers. It makes them think that you may be trying to hide
you age, employment gaps, lack of progression or underemployment.

For some recruiters, functional resume is little confusing as sometimes if becomes

difficult to connect between skills and the organizations where they have been
acquired.
3. COMBINATION

Mix or combination of both the chronological, & a functional resume.

It list your skills & experience history first & educational details next.

Emphasizes what makes you the best fit for the job, while still giving the
employer deserved information.
ADVANTAGES OF COMBINATION RESUME

Shows off a strong employment record with upward mobility.

It shows how you used the skills in the past to apply to the job you are seeking.

It emphasizes transferable skills.

this format is highly flexible and can take many forms based on your preferences.
DISADVANTAGES OF COMBINATION RESUME

The primary drawback of a combination resume is length. That is, if everything is

included in the same document, a longer resume likely to be created.

Work history is often on the second page and employer may not read that for.

You should not use this format if your experience is limited or there are wide gaps
in your work history.
SIGNIFICANCE OF RESUME WRITING
Resume should be considered as a tool for marketing yourself.

It outlines your background, your skills & you education so that a potential employer
is quickly, & early able to see how your individual experience can contribute to a
company's success.

Resume are written according to the strength of the applicants credentials

& the personal circumstances that determine their need for a job search.
CONCLUSION
Irrespective of whichever format you choose for resume writing, you'll need to
carefully plan which section to include in the resume which keyboards should
have top priority your overall design & style & off course writing great
narrative.
