INTRODUCTION
Thanks for choosing Polar! In this user manual, we’ll walk you through the basics of using and caring for the Polar
Team Pro training and coaching solution designed for monitoring and analyzing top-tier team sports performance.
Due to continuous development, this user manual is updated when new software/firmware versions are available. The
latest user manual is available at support.polar.com/en/polar-team-pro, and you'll also find links to it in the Polar
Team Pro web service and app.
The dock is used to charge Polar Pro sensors and sync training data from them to the Polar Team Pro app and Polar
Team Pro web service. It also serves as a base and charger for your iPad®.
The Polar Pro sensor measures extensive player performance data, records the data in detail and sends it live to
iPad® via Bluetooth® Smart allowing you to follow real-time information during training. After each training session,
place the sensor into the Polar Pro team dock to charge it, and to sync the data to the Polar Team Pro iPad app and
web service for detailed further analysis.
The Polar Pro sensor can be worn with the Polar Team Pro shirt that has a designated pocket for the sensor. The shirt
is comfortable to wear and transfers moisture away from the skin.
6
View extensive key performance data live from up to 60 players. Compare players and add notes and markers during
training. Instant session summaries after training as well as a heat map view for player location analysis.
Powerful session analysis and reporting tools. Analyze session data in detail for the whole team, as well as compare
players. Create custom reports for the whole team or individual players. Get a holistic view of the players' recovery and
sleep data when using Polar watches outside of training sessions.
Make sure you have the latest iOS version on your iPad. To be able to sync data from the app to the web service, you
need an internet connection.

ADD PHASE
1. Choose a training session in the Activities view.
Now a user can create phases already during a live session. Phases will be synchronized to the web service and are
seen in the training session data.
Live phase recording has independent start/stop mechanisms from the live session corresponding ones, i.e. stopping
a live phase does not stop a live session. Then again a live phase cannot be started without starting a live session first.
RR INTERVAL
View the RR intervals, i.e. time between successive heartbeats, from heart rate data from training sessions or matches
on a graph. The graph allows you to zoom in and isolate sections of the data for further analysis. Information shown
includes min RR interval, max RR interval, avg RR interval and HRV (RMSSD).
EXPORT DATA
Export training session data in XLS or CSV format. You can choose to export the data of the whole team or just the
data of certain players, and you can also choose if you want to export the data from just certain phases or from the
27
whole session. Choose the information and variables displayed in the columns.
The variables you can choose from include: Player number, Player name, Session name, Type, Phase name, Duration,
Start time, End time, HR min (bpm), HR avg (bpm), HR max (bpm), HR min (%), HR avg (%), HR max (%), Time in HR
zone, Total distance, Distance / Min, Maximum speed, Average speed, Sprints, Distance in speed zone, Number of
accelerations, Calories, Training load score, Cardio load, Recovery time, Time in power zones, Muscle load in power
zones, Muscle load, Min RR interval, Max RR interval, Avg RR interval and HRV (RMSSD).
The export raw data function exports second-by-second data from a training session. Raw data export gives you a zip
file with player specific folders which contain a CSV file, and a .txt file and a GPX file.
l The CSV file contains second by second information about heart rate, speed, distance,
acceleration/deceleration and running cadence.
l The .txt file contains unfiltered RR interval data that can be analyzed with third party heart rate variability tools.
l The GPX file contains location information that can be viewed in third party tools.
REPORTS
In the reports section you can generate different types of reports from your team's training sessions. You can choose
the period from which you want to generate the report as well as how you want to view the data. A report can be
generated for the whole team or you can choose to just include certain players. You also can create weekly individual
or multiple player reports.
Reports can be printed directly from the service and summary reports can be exported in .csv format. Name, type and
a note can be added to every team training session export summary.

POLAR HEART RATE ZONES
When the player's maximum heart rate is selected as the heart zone calculation method, heart rate zones which the
user can determine are specified as a percentage of a player's maximum heart rate. As the zones are based on
percentages of a player's own maximum heart rate, they are individual for each player. The same percentages are,
however, used for the whole team. Training is divided into five heart rate zones based on percentages of maximum
heart rate. The zones can be edited in the Team Pro web service, and can be individually customized for each sport.

31
Intensity % of HRmax*,

VERY LIGHT
Benefits: Helps to warm up and cool down and
assists recovery.
50–60% 104–114 bpm 20–40 minutes Feels like: Very easy, little strain.
*HRmax = Maximum heart rate (220-age). Example: 30 years old, 220–30=190 bpm.
Training in heart rate zone 1 is done at a very low intensity. The main training principle is that performance improves
when recovering after, and not only during training. Accelerate the recovery process with very light intensity training.
Training in heart rate zone 2 is for endurance training, an essential part of any training program. Training sessions in
this zone are easy and aerobic. Long-duration training in this light zone results in effective energy expenditure.
Progress will require persistence.
Aerobic power is enhanced in heart rate zone 3. The training intensity is higher than in zones 1 and 2, but still mainly
aerobic. Training in zone 3 may, for example, consist of intervals followed by recovery. Training in this zone is
especially effective for improving the efficiency of blood circulation in the heart and skeletal muscles.
If your goal is to compete at top potential, you will have to train in heart rate zones 4 and 5. In these zones, you
exercise anaerobically in intervals of up to 10 minutes. The shorter the interval, the higher the intensity. Sufficient
recovery between intervals is very important. The training pattern in zones 4 and 5 is designed to produce peak
performance.
The Polar target heart rate zones can be personalized in the sport profile settings in the web service by using a
laboratory measured HRmax value, or by taking a field test to measure the value yourself. When training in a target
heart rate zone, try to make use of the entire zone. The mid-zone is a good target, but keeping your heart rate at that
exact level all the time is not necessary. Heart rate gradually adjusts to training intensity. For instance, when crossing
from heart rate target zone 1 to 3, the circulatory system and heart rate will adjust in 3-5 minutes.
Heart rate responds to training intensity depending on factors such as fitness and recovery levels, as well as
environmental factors. It is important to look out for subjective feelings of fatigue, and to adjust your training program
accordingly.
INDIVIDUAL TRAINING
The individual training feature combines data from the players' individual training sessions with data from team
training sessions. In addition to data from individual training sessions, you can view the players' activity, sleep, Nightly
Recharge™, training load ,Cardio load status, and recovery status information. Find the perfect balance between
32
training and rest and get a true picture of your players’ recovery status before getting out there again. Training load
shows you how training affects your players and helps you recognize their limits, adjust training intensity and prevent
injuries. The players' data is available right after they sync their Polar device with the Flow web service and can be
viewed from the Activities calendar view as well as from the player cards.
1. Make sure you have synced all unsynced training data from the Polar Pro sensors before linking personal player
accounts with the Team Pro web service.

9. Always sync the Polar Pro sensors after linking a personal player account with the Team Pro web service.
The invitation must be sent to each player individually. It is recommended that the players create an
account first but if a player does not have a Flow account registered to the email address the invitation is
sent, the player will receive an email message that contains a link to creating a Flow account.
The players whose personal accounts have been linked are indicated with a chain icon on their
profile picture in the player roster view in Team Pro web service. All personal training sessions (including
ones done in the past) become visible in the Team Pro account after linking the accounts. Team training
sessions done before linking the accounts do not become visible in the player's personal Flow account.
33
It's possible to cancel a player invitation before the player has accepted it. Once the invitation is accepted,
the same option changes to Unlink which allows you to unlink a personal Flow profile.
All personal training sessions (including ones done in the past) become visible to the coaches in the
Team Pro account after linking the accounts. In addition to personal training sessions the coaches can
see the players' sleep statistics, nightly recharge status recovery status and cardio load status. Team
training sessions done before linking the accounts do not become visible in your personal Flow account.

POLAR SPEED ZONES
Speed zones provide an easy way to choose and monitor the intensity of your training based on speed, and help you
mix up your training with different intensities for optimal effects. There are five zones, and you can use the default
ones or define your own. The default zones are an example of speed zones for a person with a relatively high fitness
level. The zones can be edited in the Team Pro web service, and can be individually customized for each sport.
SPRINTS
The number of sprints a player takes during a training session is counted. All acceleration values over 2.8 m/s2 are
classified as sprints. The length of an acceleration can vary. It can only be a three step explosive movement or it can
be a longer 20-30 meter maximal sprint. Both efforts are classified as one sprint when the threshold value of 2.8 m/s2
is exceeded.
SPRINT THRESHOLD
Follow the number of sprints actions based on either acceleration or speed threshold. You can choose default or free.
With free you can set the threshold manually. The value can be set as speed (km/h) or acceleration (m/s2). The
default acceleration value is 2.8 m/s2.
You can edit the sprint threshold type in the Team Pro web service in Settings > Sport profiles.
TRAINING LOAD
The Training Load feature helps you to understand the amount of effort that you put into a training session. Training
Load is calculated for every training session based on intensity and duration. The Training Load feature makes the
effort of a short high intensity session comparable to that of a long low intensity session. Training Load value is
indicated to the user in days and hours for more detailed comparison between sessions.
Training Load is based on intensity and duration of a training session. The intensity of a session is measured using
heart rate and the calculation is further affected by your personal information, such as age, sex, weight, VO2max, and
37
training history. Before training history is available, your training background selection is used in the calculation. We
also use your aerobic and anaerobic threshold values in the calculation. If you have reliably measured them, please
update the default values in the web service. The sport of a session is taken into account via sport specific factor,
which improves the calculation accuracy.
Training load can be viewed as Cardio Load and Muscle load, recovery time or a as a score. Cardio Load measures
your cardiac response to a training session, or in other words how much strain a training session put on your
cardiovascular system. Muscle Load measures the strain a training session causes to your musculoskeletal system
that is comprised of your joints, muscular and skeletal systems. Recovery time is an estimate of the time you need to
fully recover from your training. Training load score is a numeric value of the approximate measure of carbohydrate
and protein used as energy during training. Its numeric value typically ranges from 50 to 250 in a 30 to 90 minute
training session.
You can edit how to view Training load in the Team Pro web service in Team Settings > General. You can choose to
view Training load as Cardio load and Muscle Load, Recovery time or Score.
CARDIO LOAD
Cardio Load measures your cardiac response to a training session, or in other words how much strain a training
session puts on your cardiovascular system. Your Cardio Load is shown as training impulse (TRIMP), a commonly
accepted method to quantify training load. TRIMP is calculated after every workout from your heart rate and session
duration, and it’s affected by your physical settings, resting and maximal heart rate, and gender.
Cardio Load is not updated during live sessions to the application. It is calculated in the Team Pro web service after
the session when syncing.
They adapt according to your progress: the more you train, the more you tolerate. This also means that a load value
that was for example ranked as three bullets (medium) a couple of months ago could now be ranked as two bullets
(low) as your tolerance for training has improved. This reflects the fact that the same kind of training session can have
a different impact on your cardio system depending on your training history and current condition.
When you start following your Cardio Load Status, you need to gather data for a while to build up your personal
baseline for analysis before we can give you accurate feedback on your status. You need a certain amount of training
history before your strain and tolerance can be determined reliably. This why you won’t see all of the available
information right away. It takes some weeks to establish a baseline. Before we can give accurate feedback, you’ll see
an estimate (indicated with*).
38
Since your Cardio Load Status uses your average daily load from the past 28-day training window as an input, if you
don’t have any training history in Flow you’re still gathering data to build a baseline during your first four training
weeks. During this period your Cardio Load Status can still be inaccurate. Especially if you happen to have lighter or
heavier training weeks that deviate from your regular training habits, they can distort your Cardio Load Status in the
short-term and give you a status that may not be accurate. After a month of training that reflects your typical training
amount your Cardio Load Status should be reliable.
MUSCLE LOAD
Muscle Load measures the strain a training session causes to your musculoskeletal system that is comprised of your
joints, muscular and skeletal systems. It helps quantify training loads in anaerobic high-intensity training sessions,
such as short intervals, sprints and hill sessions, when your heart rate doesn’t have enough time to react to the
changes in intensity.
Muscle load is illustrated with a numerical value. In addition, a verbal description and bullet scale for Muscle Load
uses a five-step scale: Very low, Low, Medium, High, Very High. The scales are adaptive and have been added in
addition to the absolute numeric value to help players interpret the load of a single session. Muscle Load is
automatically calculated from your power data from training sessions with both outdoor and indoor profiles when
GPS and or acceleration data is available from running based sport profiles (excluding ice hockey and volleyball).
Since Muscle load is calculated from power data it is important that the power zones are accurately defined for each
player. Power zones are defined in relation to MAP (Maximum aerobic power). If the players' have measured their MAP
(Maximum aerobic power) values, update the them player profile settings in the Player roster view under Team
settings. If a players' personal Flow account is not linked to Team Pro, their MAP value is calculated from their
VO2max value.
After changing the Muscle load setting from the sport profile settings (on or off) from the Team Pro web
service you need to log out from the Team Pro app and log back in again to activate the change.

PRECAUTIONS
The Polar Team Pro solution shows performance indicators. The solution is designed to indicate the level of
physiological strain and recovery during and after an exercise session. It measures heart rate, speed and distance. No
other use is intended or implied.
The solution should not be used for obtaining environmental measurements that require professional or industrial
precision.
Disturbance may occur near electrical devices. Also WLAN base stations may cause interference when training with
the training device. To avoid erratic reading or misbehavior, move away from possible sources of disturbance.
Training equipment with electronic or electrical components such as LED displays, motors and electrical brakes may
cause interfering stray signals. To solve these problems, try the following:
1. Remove the sensor strap from your chest and use the training equipment as you would normally.
2. Move the training device around until you find an area in which it displays no stray reading or does not flash the
heart symbol. Interference is often worst directly in front of the display panel of the equipment, while the left or
right side of the display is relatively free of disturbance.
3. Put the sensor strap back on your chest and keep the training device in this interference-free area as much as
possible.
If the training device still does not work with the training equipment, it may be electrically too noisy for wireless heart
rate measurement. For further information, see www.polar.com/support.
