Research - (Final)

The document discusses a study on the impacts of modular learning on the academic performance of junior high school students. It presents a conceptual paradigm with independent variables being the impacts of modular learning and dependent variables being students' level of perception and attitude. The study aims to determine students' level of perception and understanding of modular learning, differences according to gender, and the correlation between perception and understanding. It hypothesizes that the level of perception is fair while understanding is low, and that there are differences according to gender. The background discusses benefits of modular learning and challenges in its implementation.

ABSTRACT:
Conventional classroom instruction had already been transformed into
electronic mode of teaching and learning. Use of mobile technology is evolving in
global and local context, as in the Philippines. Gaining insights from Media
Richness Theory, the study intends to examine how modular learning pedagogy,
opens up avenues for students learning and enhances their educational
performance, endorsed by facilitation discourse and flexibility.

In this cross-section study, data was collected from learner-respondents

in Bulalacao National High School. Drawing results from structural equation
modelling, findings revealed that use of mobile devices is on great demand for
providing flexible and discussion-oriented learning to learner-respondents and
lifts up their academic output. Facilitation discourse and flexibility play a robust
intervening role in producing pronounced impact of modular learning on learners
effectiveness.

INTRODUCTION
Education and learning are thought to be most crucial foundations of a
growing economy, yet the academic system needs radical transformations and
major technological reforms. Mobile learning, a more pronounced form of e-
learning, is emerging as a stepping stone towards bringing revolution to the
educational sector and providing hands on solutions to the pertaining problems
(West, 2013).
In contemporary education management, students tend to greatly rely
upon mobile technologies to achieve dramatic performance outcomes. With
intense inclination towards cellular connectivity, mobile technology is playing
critical role in improving learning of the students as well as instructors.
In previous years, cellphones had been majorly used for purpose of
communication, now the trend has shifted towards using them for gaining and
sharing information. People is utilizing technology as means of fundamental
didactic channel in academic establishments (El-Hussein & Cronje, 2010).
Furthermore, the count of users for this purpose is consistently rising, this
can be judged through the given statistics. It has become remarkably convenient
for the learner-respondents and teachers to beat the problems of learning and
instructing at any time and place. It would not be overestimating to say that usage
of mobiles has been extensively embraced by the learner-respondents and teachers
due to its working, standards and philosophy (Huang & Hsieh, 2012).

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The findings of the study redound to the benefits of the teachers and school
administrators to reflect on their current teaching practices and develop possible
interventions to improve learning outcomes. This will give a significant plan for
educators to improve the teaching-learning process and how modular distance
learning can be implemented effectively. This study can help teachers because it
would serve as an eye-opener for them in knowing the effects of modular learning
in the learner-student’s academic performance so that they can implement
appropriate guidelines and instructions.
Modular distance learning would help learner-students to be trained them
on time management, setting their priorities, solve and answer problems and
questions given in their modules and helps learner-students mentally and it can be
associated with developing self-regulation skills by being independent.
Page |6

With this, learner-students can have a positive and academic attitude towards the
new learning modality.
Ultimately, the result of this study would motivate the parents to extend
more assistance and guide their children’s strengths and weaknesses when doing
their assigned task incorporated in their modules.
Bringing in one paper the impact of covid-19 pandemic all across the
world is a broad topic that requires a month of study and research. The social
media platform has covered all these and they brought many information that are
relevant and for sure we are all knowledgeable of this matters. There are positive
and negative impact of covid-19 reason in general but this research would like to
concentrate on education matters most specially on the effect of the modular
learning approach on the academic performance of students at Bulalacao National
High School.
This study aims to evaluate the existing effect of modular learning to
Bulalacao National High School learner-students to present its positive impact to
us to know if it is effective and how effective it is. As an essence of this research,
we would state the true and genuine effect of modular learning, the research
question’s and its answers. Also we would like to present the good result of this
study.
Using modules has its advantages and dis-advantages. According to
(Nardo, M.T.B, 2017), the use of modules advocates self-directed learning. Using
modules for learning leads to be better self-study or learning skills among learner-
respondents. The concepts presented in modules engross learner respondents in
learning. The task provided develop sense of responsibility among the learner-
respondents, and the progressed on their own. They learn to learn, they
empowered. In addition, the students participate in real experiences. They
discover new things, and they experienced their own. Learner-respondents learn
to reflect on their own experiences, thus develop new skills, learning through
modular direct the learner-respondents to be in charge of their own learning.
The use of modules has its dis-advantages according to Bijeesh, without
the presence of the faculty and their classmates who remind them for their
assignments the chances of getting distracted and losing track of deadlines are
high. In adolition, in the study of (Dangle & Sumoang 2020) they revealed the
main challenges that emerged in the implementation of modular distance learning
where budget is not enough in the making and delivery of modules; learner-
respondents had a hard time on answering their tasks on their modules and the
lack of knowledge of parents academically to guide their child/children.

Conceptual Paradigm
The figure 1 shows the paradigm of the study, where there are
independent, dependent, and moderating variables, where in, the independent
variable is the impact of modular learning towards the academic achievement; the
dependent variables are the level of perception; the attitude of the learner-
respondents towards the impact of modular learning.
It is assumed that the gender has impact towards the level of perception
and level of attitude of the learner-respondents towards the impact of modular
learning.
It is presumed that there is correlation between the level of perception and
the level of attitude of the learner-repondents.

Statement of the problem

1.What is the level of perception of the respondents towards the impact of
modular learning?
2.What is the level of understanding of the respondents towards the
implementation of modular learning?
3. Is there a difference in the level of perception of the learner-respondents
towards the implementation of modular learning according to gender?
4.Is there a difference in the level of understanding of the learner-respondents
towards the implementation of modular learning according to gender?
5.Is there a correlation between the level of perception and the level of
understanding of the respondents towards the implementation of modular
learning?

HYPOTHESIS
1.The level of perception of the respondents toward the impact of modular
learning is fair.
2.The level of understanding of the respondents towards the implementation of
modular learning is low.
3.There is a difference in the level of perception of the respondents in the
implementation of modular learning according to gender.
4. There is a difference in the level of understanding of the respondents in the
implementation of modular learning according to gender.
5.There is a correlation between the level of perception and the level of
understanding of the learner-respondents towards the implementation of modular
learning.

METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents also the research design the sample and the place
the study was conducted. It provides a discussion of the instrumentation of the
data gathering tool and the data gathering procedure, as well as the statistical
treatment of data.

Research Design
This study used a descriptive correlation design and utilized a survey
questionnaire for learner-respondents. This serve as an instrument in gathering
data.
The survey questionnaire measured the level of perception of the
learner-respondent towards the impact of modular learning in education to test the
learner-respondents understanding, the attitude of the learner-respondents in
answering their modules.
