This module consists of Computer Networking I and Computer Networking II. The module aims
to provide the fundamental concepts and issues involved in computer networking technology In
addition to this, students will extend their skill and knowledge of basic network technology
through an examination of more complex network environment.

Course Description

This Course provides the fundamental concepts and issues involved in computer networking
technology. The Course provides the fundamentals of computer networking that allows students
to design and implement local area networks especially in business environment. It also
provides details of different network connectivity devices and communication channels used in
computer networking. This course also provides the basic concepts of protocols, network
standards, and different technical concepts of computer networking.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this module, students:
1. Explain what computer networks are and how they are used
2. Create awareness on “getting a Business wired using computer networking and the
internet to grow a business”
3. Identify various hardware components of a computer network and understand their
functions.
4. Explain how network software is used to communicate over a network
5. Define standards and protocols and how they are used to communicate on a network.
6. Explain how data is transmitted over a network.
7. Identify the OSI model and explain how communication layers interact.
8. Able to design and implement small, medium, and enterprise size LAN.
9. Identify future possibilities for computer networks.

Assessment Mechanisms

Students will be assessed out of 100% in this course. Of which 50% will be allotted for the
continuous assessment (CA) that will be done throughout the semester. The remaining 50% will
be for final examination. The CA includes tests and assignments (group/individual).
