How to Set Up Two-Step Verification

For Windows Users


1. PurposePurpose
This document outlines how to set up a two-step verification, also known as Multi-Factor Authentication
(MFA), to ensure Lowe’s associates are able to sign into Lowe’s VPN. This is required for all associates.

2. Instructionsructions

IMPORTANT: BEFORE YOU BEGIN

• To set up MFA, you will need to use both your Lowe’s computer and your cellular phone.
• All steps must be followed to complete the process. Registration will be finished once you receive the
“Success!” pop-up notification as shown below:

WHAT YOU WILL SEE ACTION NEEDED

1 Install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your


cellular phone. Note, there are other authenticator
apps, but the Microsoft Authenticator app is the
preferred and recommended app.

Disregard the “Download now” link on your


computer screen.
• If you are using an iPhone, install the Microsoft
Authenticator app from the App Store.
• If you are using an Android, install the Microsoft
Authenticator app from the Play Store.
Once the app is installed, click “Next”.
IMPORTANT: Do not uninstall the Microsoft
Authenticator app. You will need to to use it each
time you sign-on to your computer.

2 This step will ensure your computer and cellular


phone are in sync.
“Allow” Microsoft Authenticator notifications on
your cellular phone so MFA prompts pop up.

Then, click “Next” on your computer. (Figure 2.1)

3 You will need to scan the QR code through the
Microsoft Authenticator app.

• On your cellular phone, tap the plus (“+”)


sign at the top of the screen. Select the
option to set up an account for work or

Scroll down to capture the full QR code.

• Using the Microsoft Authenticator app from


your cellular phone, scan the QR code on
your computer screen. Make sure you can
see the entire QR code. Scroll down to
capture the full QR code. (Figure 3.2)

Then, click “Next”.

4 A two-digit number will appear on your computer


screen. At the same time, a pop-up will appear on
your cellular phone. (Figures 4.1 and 4.2)
Enter this two-digit number into the sign-in screen
of your cellular phone. Note, the 83 in this picture
is for illustrative purposes only. You will receive a
two-digit number specifically for your use.
Then, tap “Yes” on your cellular phone, which will
highlight in blue once the two-digit number is
entered. (Figure 4.3)

5 You are nearly finished!


Click “Next”.

6 You will get a pop-up notification that the Microsoft


Authenticator app was successfully registered.
Lastly, click “Done”.
Congratulations! You are now set up with MFA.

Now that you are registered with MFA, from this point forward, you will occassionally be prompted for
MFA.
An “Approve sign-in?” pop up will appear on your cellular phone. Tap the notification and repeat the steps as
shown in Step 4.

If you inadvertently delete the Microsoft Authenticator app from your cellular phone OR need further
assistance, contact the IT Service Desk at +1-704-758-4357 (HELP) for assistance.
